Google Nexus 5X Replacement for Wife

Hello all,

My wife's nexus 5X died recently. I assumed it was the motherboard problem however LG tell me the warranty is void due to water damage. I'm extremely dubious about that claim but they sent me a photo of "my" water damaged board as proof… what do you do. I'm not keen on spending $187 to fix a 20 mth old phone that I paid $450 for.

My wife is in no way a techie so a flagship phone isn't neccessary. What's the 2017 equivalent to the Nexus?

Basic Nokia ? TBH haven't tried them but seem quite cheap and well spec'd for the price.

I just recently got the mi A1 global version. It's missing the 4g 700 band, but otherwise perfect. The camera is a bit lacking. But the best thing is it's running Android One. It's duel sim too. And it's cheap.

    • How does your experience with Android One differ as compared to other phones that don't have pure Android? Just curious if it matters much. How much did you buy it for (64GB or 32GB)?

  • I'd always recommend LG phones. They are not as cheap as chinese phones but they are usually cheaper than samsung and have similar specs. U can prob get a good deal for LG G5

    • Nah, after seeing how unreliable the 5X is and experiencing their poor service with repairs I'm not keen to go back there.

    • Boot-looping?

  • I'd kick up a stink. My 5x died as well due to mobs issues. Nearly everyone I know who owned one has had issues. Your Australian Consumer Law rights should help.
