Questions about VyprVPN for China

Sorry, this probably has been discussed before. How well does VyprVPN work in China? I've used it 2 years ago - it connects to a server but doesn't relay any information back i.e no websites open. Back then I was using the free version (500mb) on Android.

Currently they have a 25% off yearly subscription deal and I'm tempted to purchase. I've also had a look at some others like ExpressVPN but it's quite expensive.

Even if it does work right now, it might all change in February. Source

You'll probably see lots of specials to try and make some money before having to either comply or work around the firewall changes.

    • I don't use a VPN that much. Do you reckon it's worth getting a years subscription just for China? Afterwards, I'll mainly use it for streaming and P2P. Are there monthly deals that might be more worth it?

        That depends on your situation.

When are you going to China?

What are you doing in China?
If it's recreational, then just don't use facebook and the like. Take some movies/episodes on a flash drive if you want to fill some time at night.
If it's for work, and you need to access certain things, then buy it and hope for the best. Doesn't matter if you had to try 3 different VPN's, it won't cost you more than a couple of hundred for yearly subscriptions.

I guess the same goes with recreational, but you'll have to weigh up the costs and need to sort it out prior to leaving.

        • I'll be leaving soon but will be there for a month. I can live without facebook, but not messenger and youtube. I'll also have some work related emails coming in through gmail so it'll be handy to have the VPN. $60 USD/$80 AUD is affordable but I'm not entirely sure how much I'll use it after I get back to Oz.

I think 1 month ought to be enough, even though less economical. Thanks for the insight mate, I appreciate it.

        • @fossilfuel: Most VPN's have a trial period. Get the trial periods just before you leave. eg I know WangleVPN has a 1 month trial, surfeasy has 500MB, etc.

        • @rompastompa: Have a read of this post. Looks like ExpressVPN was successful.
