NBN Troubleshooting

Hoping a ozbargain tech guru can help. Signed up to Aussie Broadband and moved into my brand new house recently. Today the NBN tech came around and 'hooked me up', confirmed 50mbit connection (what i'm paying for) then promptly left.

Problem is after he left I plugged in my brand new modem (Netgear Nighthawk D7000 V2) and…. nothing. Cant get a connection.

Phoned Aussie and the guy on the line shrugged his shoulder, said must have been connected incorrectly and they would need to get the NBN tech out again to fix. Turns out thats gonna be Tuesday next week at earliest :(

This is really killing my mobile data. Anyone got any idea what could be wrong or any settings I should be checking?

  • I'm guessing you plugged back in your old modem and that also isn't working as it did before that?

    • moved address. Old modem isnt VDSL so wont work with FTTN :(

Can you try plugging in a laptop via ethernet straight into the first port on the NBN router and see if you get internet?

Did you switch it off and on again?

  • What type of NBN? HFC?

    • FTTN

      • Mine is HFC, I have to use the ISP supplied modem/router for everything to work properly (esp VoIP)… when I have more time will explore possibilities of using my own modem/router as I don't like the one they supplied (everything is locked down)

  • hooked you up = connected or what

    50mbps fttn is good.

    • He said it was working, evidently it isnt…

Im 200 meters to the node straight up the road, was advised to expect speeds up to 100

  • Call Netgear Support. Your modem comes with free support for 90 days after purchase. If Netgear can't solve it then you should be able to claim a "not fit for purpose" refund.
