Hi and welcome to the first ever OzBargain competition!

What is This?

I am hoping to run some competitions on OzBargain to thank for those who have contributed to this website. Thank you all for posting all these great deals and vouchers! To be honest, the OzBargain blog runs itself from its advertisement, but I would like to pass much of its earning back to its contributors. So now you not only can check out great deals, you can also join the competition to win real rewards.

Okay. What's the Prize?

Since it's the first competition, I've got a few more funds. Total $150 in prize, and here is the list:

  • 1x AUD$50 voucher
  • 5x AUD$20 voucher

I will be getting those vouchers from either Deals Direct and OO.com.au (who has been good friends of OzBargain blog), but the winners get to choose what they want. Alternatively I can only post the prize money into your PayPal account, if you have one.

How Do I Enter?

Easy. If you have previously sent me vouchers/deals via my blog's contact form last 1-2 weeks, you are already entered! Nothing more you need to do, but I don't mind getting more vouchers from you :) Otherwise, you need to:

  1. Register an account. Make sure you use the correct email address as that's where the prize will be sent to.
  2. Post a deal. Please don't post any junk, but share genuine bargains! Also if you are a shop/merchant, posting a product from your own website does not count.
  3. Do the two items above before 11:59pm Friday 22 December 2006 to enter into competition.

That's all. And on Saturday 23 December 2006 I'll pull 6 prizes from all who have entered, contact those who have won the prize, and put the names on the site.

Also I am thinking of running similar competition here regularly — any idea on how can I improve it? What sort of format do you like? What kind of prizes do you prefer? How frequent should I run? (of course these are also limited by my funding or lack of it)

    Here is the list of winners for the first ever OzBargain Competition.

    How were the names drawn?

    First of all I take a list of names that have posted deals on this website since its launch, removed some obvious ones (i.e. myself + 2 users who are posting deals from their own online shop), add 3 more who have sent me coupons/vouchers from the last 2 months. Each contestant has equal weight. Then run through some random numbers. Bam! We've got some winners.

    What do I need to claim my prize?

    You should have received an email with instructions on what you should do. If you haven't, you might want to check your spam filters (emails with subject "Congratulation…" usually get penalised). Otherwise please contact me for instructions.

    It has been a great ride this month. Thank you all!

    But I have missed out!

    Unfortunately not everyone can be a winner. However I do plan to run similar competition/contest regularly — at least once a month. So watch this space for the next one!

    If you have any great idea on what kind of contest we should have, or what kind of prizes, please also post your suggestions in the forums. I am more than happy to take suggestions (as long as I can afford it :)

    Woohoo, I never win any competitions so I'm honoured to win OzBargain's first comp!
    This site is one of my top favourites, it resides in my personal toolbar (there's not much room on there so only the best sites make it!). I look forward to finding more bargains together and hope this site flourishes as it deserves. Big thanks to Scott for it and for your personal touch which makes the site stand out from the rest :)

    Sorry guys! So far I have only received two claims (and not from ozpete and Jaxx). My email server was actually having issues earlier today after a scheduled move. I did not realise the problem until later today. It's now fixed.

    If your email bounced back with a "450 Server configuration problem", please send your email again.

    Sorry for the delay.

    And to Jaxx — maybe I should add one more clause into the terms and conditions. "We hold no responsibility for the reduction of your productivity" :) Thanks for finding the bargains, and merry Christmas to all!
