Taking 2 Days to Port from Optus to Telstra (Part of JB Hifi Deal)

Hi all,
It has been two days since i walked into JB and kicked off the port process from Optus 12 Month SIM Only post paid to the Telstra 49$ deal.

It still has not ported, i did receive a message from Optus within 15 minutes at JB Hifi that a port request was initiated and i can stop this by calling them. i did not.

JB Have said, they will not give me the 200$ voucher until Telstra gets the port sorted and the phone is live on telstra.

anyone else take this long?

Thanks

I think you should call Telstra

It's usually 24-48 hours for ports between networks. ie. Optus to Vodafone or Telstra.

    Call Telstra as advised above.

  • Had a massive stuff around with those Optus pricks the other day trying to port to Telstra. Ring Optus or go into the store and get them to ring from there (you get through straight away). This is a problem at Optus' end, they wouldn't release the number.

  • I ported Telstra to Optus last month and had a lot of hassles. The Optus staff member incorrectly typed in my account number to their system, so the port would never work. I got the usual 'wait up to 48 hours' run around. Once the correct account number was typed in the port took 10 minutes.

Call the carrier you're porting to and confirm all the details.

  • Every port i've ever requested has been done within a few hours, sounds like somethings screwy with yours :-(

  • yep, called them - Theres been an error on you transfer, the telstra team is working on it now.

  • EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

No idea why but every time I port it takes ages. 2 day min, sometimes up to 7 days. Usually because there is an error on their end and they never follow up with me, rather they wait for me to ring back and that prompts someone to fix it.

Last time it was because the person who input my information got my DOB wrong so it wouldn't match with the DOB on the original account and wouldn't allow the port.

I find hassling via twitter after the two day wait can get you a credit to your account (postpaid) or a free month (prepaid). But I would personally rather it just port correctly the first time.

  • FYI Reference for the OP
Called Optus and Vodafone and asked them how long it would take to port my number
Optus - Up to 24 Hours
Vodafone - Up to 3 Hours

Not sure how long Telstra usually takes

  • still havent been connected.
