Transfer from iPhone to USB Flash Drive

Hi everyone,
My mum has a 16GB iPhone 5 and wants to safe keep a few pics and videos.

I was wondering if there is any adaptor with lightining cable to transfer to a USB flash drive.
I have similar setup for my Samsung Note.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
coolstan

    What's wrong with using icloud?

    • Her IT skills are pretty low. Would a OTG USB option be available?

  • You might want this. Works as a charging cable too.

    • This is what I have in mind. a bit pricey.

      ebay options?

  • no PC or laptop?

    • She wants to avoid the PC just to access the pics when needed.

She is aware of how I do with the Samsung OTG cable and USB flash drives. Hence looking for a similar option.

      • Why not to the PC and then USB drive?

How about something like this? "Automatically back up photos and videos from your camera roll"

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-SanDisk-iXpand-32GB-V2-Flash…

$55.20 with PREZZY coupon code - you might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere. They come in bigger storage capacities but are obviously more expensive.

Edit - just realised her phone is only 16gb so a 16gb memory stick would be big enough I assume - use the same coupon code as above to pay $35.04 for this product: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-SanDisk-iXpand-16GB-V2-Flash…

    • Thanks pantsparty. Looks like a good option. >thumbsup<

    64GB 20bucks.

    Any thoughts?

VERY VERY LIKELY FAKE - will seem to work but the files will be corrupted when you try to read them back.
I recommend ALWAYS staying with sellers with 99.5% or better feedback when buying products that have the possibility of being fake. USB sticks and memory cards are one of those products.

I'd recommend a branded product (Sandisk etc) for your mum - not only will it not be fake, but their App on the phone itself is likely to be easier to use, and in english - not "chinese google translate english" as you will get on the cheaper products from HK/china.

      • Thanks for your feedback pinchies.
        Appreciate it

You can plug the phone into a computer and copy the photos over, then copy them into a USB drive.

If she wants to be safe against the phone suffering a watery fate, tell her to turn iCloud backups on (Settings [cog icon] -> her name at the top of the menu -> iCloud -> iCloud Backup - On). It will backup whenever connected to wifi and and locked. If the phone ever meets a watery fate, simply log into new iPhone with Apple ID and everything will be downloaded to the new phone and it will be just like the old one. This saves the effort of having to deliberately save new photos.

    • Thanks Quantumcat.

I am going to do iCloud and also get the Sandisk with 20percent off ebay

    Hi everyone,

Just thought I would update here.

With a little bit of research, I went ahead and purchased Kingston Mobilelite Wireless Reader

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kingston-MLW221-Mobilelite-Wirel…

This would allow to use any USB flash drive or SD Card and has an iOS app to transfer and stream stuff. Versatile!

    Hope it helps others.

    Thanks again for the feedback.
    Cheers
