HP Probook 470 G5 17.3" 8th Gen Quad i7 512GB SSD 16GB GeForce 2GB $1560. Is It Worth It?

I've been looking for a laptop with high specs (8th Gen, 16MB, SSD), budget 1-1.6K, for use at home (for 5-7 years), where portability (weight) and battery life are not decisive at all. Among others I've come across with the following model:

HP Probook 470 G5 17.3" 8th Gen Quad I7 512GB SSD 16GB Geforce 2GB Win 10 for $1560 (after 20% discount) https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HP-Probook-470-G5-17-3-8th-Gen-Q…

In your opinion, is this laptop a good value for money and the purpose (durability)? Are there any better options right now?

Shall I wait for the Christmas time in hope for better deals or this one is good enough (20% off)?

Thank you

  • Wish I have $, will get this plus 2 x 27" led monitors, my dream workstation setup come into reality.

  • HP ProBook is supposed to be their prosumer line. Not too keen on their durability. Nice spec — but with a GT930M? Might as well not mentioning it. Also Re: dragonindespair's comment — won't be that useful with 2x 27" external monitor, when it only has 1x VGA and 1x HDMI1.4 port.

    • scotty, do you think GT930M is a serious drawback if the laptop is not intended to be used for gaming? Thanks

      • My point is GT930M is a bit useless when it comes to gaming, not much better than IGA here (UHD 620).

  • Would a Thinkpad E470 fit your needs? They are always on special!

    • hogwarts, at this stage, I don't see any Lenovo laptops with the 8th Gen processors. Otherwise, agree, the deals are worth watching. Thanks

  • If I were very critical I'd say 1080p and 1 USB C is going to be very out of date in 7 years…

I'd want display port so I can use two external screens

    Does it have gigabit Ethernet?

If you only want to use it at home why don't you buy a desktop?

    • Presence, I've sent an inquiry about the Ethernet (as it is not visible on the images). I don't want to use a desktop as sometimes we need to move the laptop from room to room. Thanks
