Good Mouse Recommendation?

I am after a full-size mouse for a desktop computer. But mouses don't seem to be on display, they're all in sealed boxes so I can't find the right mouse by placing my hand on one. And the market seems to have swung heavily toward laptop users, so most models seem to be small ones designed to be carried around.

Main criteria:
- large rather than small mouse.
- scroll wheel made of rubber that won't break down after a few years.
- forward and back buttons preferred, but not a necessity.
- wireless fine if battery changes are a few months or greater.

Some current thoughts:

Logitech MX Master seems like the top of the heap but could be overkill for my needs.
Logitech M90 or M100 could do the job.
Logitech Marathon is claimed to be a comfortable mouse but availability seems a bit poor.
The Logitech M5xx and higher numbered mice seem to be full size but but not sure if there is logic in the numbering system?
Prefer Microsoft but they don't appear to offer mice of the same quality as last decade, based on the reviews I'm seeing.
Steelseries Sensei is highly regarded but I don't game much nowdays.

Acronym for "fixed that for you."

    • Is the MX Master good for gaming? It's wireless so I'm a bit more cautious about about it.

I find it to be just fine. The receiver is on the back of the case, and the case is on the other side of the monitor.. But then again, while I play FPS, I don't play competitively.. So the minuscule lag is not noticeable. Occasionally the battery goes flat while gaming, which is the biggest headache I have.

If you have the Logitech software installed, there's a on-screen notification when your battery runs low. Mouse hasn't died on me yet.

The one I use is the Logitech M570, although it does take some time getting accustomed to using the trackball, it's actually quite comfortable to use. Has all the features you listed above and comes at a relatively cheaper price.

Currently using MX Master, no complaints. Need to charge every few weeks, can use while charging. I also have the MX and M570. I would use the M570 occasionally, if my hand/wrist is stiff, but haven't had the need to with the MX Master.

MX master is not overkill. I have the 'predecessor' of the MX master which would be the Performance Mouse MX (also known as M950) which is a very ergonomic mouse made for right handed users.

While it is a pricey mouse, the ergonomics is what sold the mouse to me and it is actually pretty important if you use the mouse for work (i.e. susceptible to repetitive strain injury). If you work a desk job, you should pay a bit more on your work equipment.

My current 'work' mouse is a Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum, and its the most comfortable mouse I've used so far. Again it's an expensive mouse, and you'll have to wait for a deal to get it for under $70 dollars.

There's another brand called 'Cougar' who makes budget mice and keyboards. You can start by looking at their product page. Goes for $29 on most pc shops. https://www.mwave.com.au/product/cougar-minos-x2-optical-gam…

Just my two cents: I haven't used any of the mouse listed above, but have been using the Logitech G403 for a couple of months, bought for around $50 in a previous deal. Great mouse, feels solid, has forward and back buttons on the left hand side of the mouse (good if you're right-handed). Highly recommended. I used to use a Logitech G300s, and I feel like the G403 is miles ahead in terms of quality.

I was very happy with Logitech MX Anywhere, used it for many for years. It recently got damaged after dropped on a hard surface, and I replaced it with MX Anywhere 2 - very happy with it. Build in battery, can be used wired or wireless, also Bluetooth (3 profiles switch at the bottom). Tracks perfectly on any surface, perfect size and fit for me, nice solid feel. Will last many years.

    • Unless you drop it on a hard surface. :p

      • Funny you should say that, actually it survived the drop very well, just got a lot of scratches. As it was very old and "v2" has build in battery and also supports Bluetooth, I decided to upgrade. I still keep "v1" as a spare.

    MX master

It isn’t expensive and it’s the best.

Maybe look out for a sale price of the version 2

    Logitech MX Master

Hands down. Got it from an Ozbargain sale for $79 a few months back, it's been cheaper since then but zero regrets. Incredibly comfortable, great size and fit, good tracking, long battery life, even programmable buttons.

I'm pretty happy with my Tecknet BM306 Bluteooth mouse.
Can be had for about $12 on AliExpress.
Bluetooth, full size (smaller than the MX Master of course), takes 2 AA batteries (Eneloops of course).

    • That looks like a Logitech Marathon clone so could be good on that basis alone.

Marginally smaller (in width and height), but yeah they look very similar. The only feature difference appears to be that the Logitech has side to side buttons on the scroll wheel?
I don't even use the scroll wheel click feature, so no loss to me.
This is my second… Dropped the first one down the stairs one too many times! (trying to balance mouse on top of laptop en route to a meeting).
I bought 2 this time round so I have a spare for the next time my mouse bites the dust..
3 mice and still only spent about half the price of a branded mouse.

Logitech G403, has a wired and wireless variant, both thumb buttons, simple design, decent size, top end sensor.

Ended up going for an MX Master, ordered from eBay for $74.36 which isn't an excessive price tag for a mouse. I do have reservations about it possibly being a power-hungry mouse that needs regular charging, but the ergonomics should hopefully make up for that.

I recharge once every few weeks.. Mine is on 24/7. My work one is my old home one - a Performance MX (the old gen). It's 6 or 7 years old and gets a month per charge (but I turn it off daily).

      Your hands will thank you.
