Best Travel SIM for New Zealand

Howdy ya'll,

I'll be embarking on my first trip to New Zealand in a few weeks and was wondering what the OzB community can offer in the way of advice?

I'm currently on a Telstra plan, they have an international roaming add on of $5 a day buy you only get 100MB a day, which seems quite low.

Any other tips/advice when travelling to NZ is also welcome :)

Cheers

I used Spark. They also have free hotspots around different locations like Telstra Air

  • FYI, if you have a post paid plan with Vodafone you can use at as if you were in Australia while roaming in NZ

I signed up for a post paid Vodafone plan, which was month to month.
Included 8gigs for about $50 with unlimited calls home or within NZ. Worked without any issues and was all setup before I left. I was only there for a week so was able to use my remainder data when I was home. I cancelled at about week 3 of first month and was hassle free.

  • I would secon buying a month to month sim from vodafone, its Pro Rata, so if you are only going for a week, you will only be charged for a week. Works perfectly, I am with vodafone and before flying to NZ, i just add an extra plan to add data and then drop it when i get back. Just another thing, dont buy a pocket wifi dongle thing, as the Australian ones dont work in NZ. Found that out the hard way.

    • So let me get my head right with this. Buy a month-to-month sim, and then just roam in NZ and it'll be the same as in AU? Do I need to change any settings or contact Vodafone to let them know I'm going to NZ?

      • Yeah, Vodafone are the only one that does that and you dont need to let them know anything. Free Roaming in NZ
