Cheaper Insurance on Car Hire [NT] Wanted

I live in the NT and we don't have unlimited kms and want to hire a car over Christmas. At the moment I can hire a car for 19 days and get 1900km (free $100 dollars for each day) with it and want to use it for 3 days from Darwin to kununurra, I've got the rate for this at $396 dollars but the excess if I have an accident is $4000 dollars and if I want to get zero excess then the car will be $795 which is quiet a lot.

I'm looking for insurance companies that won't charge an arm and a leg, if anyone got an ideas, please kindly forward please.

  • NT sucks for car hire.

some credit cards have a car rental excess coverage insurance.
some travel insurances have car rental excess coverage insurance.

  • Tripcover for domestic car rental excess insurance

  • +1

Agree with the two above. Get domestic travel insurance cover and make sure it includes cover for rental car hire (normally they cover the first $4k on your excess). Should be about $50 to $100 for the same time period.

    • Yeah I hoping it would be $50 to $100, I'll find out more, thank you

      • Try using travel insurance direct (use TIDTHANKS as promo code if it still works). Have used before in the past with no issues.

  • I’ve used this company before, it was fairly simple

    Should be around $180

  • 1cover travel insurance good. $5000 can cover excess if u have accident

  • Take out travel insurance.

  • Does your credit card offer travel insurance? If so, check it's provisions and potentially pay with credit card and not worry about further insurance.

    • I only have a bank west card which I believe is for oversea only.
