Cheap Private Health Cover + Extras?

I am looking for a private hospital and extra cover for the family.

Is there any with good extras cover like optical/dental cover that has little or no waiting period? That would probably be all i need it for (well to save on the loading).

What would you recommend?

  • For hospital:

    1. Compare cover for things you are likely to use.

    2. Determine if your preferred hospital is covered.

    For extras:

    1. Do your sums. Paying monthly is rarely better than paying in full when you need it.

If you can wait, most places have promotions regularly where they waive the waiting periods for most extras.

  • A good cost is one thing, however look for value for money.
Many health covers have their PDS as clear as mud.
I moved from Medifail Private to Frank Health.
They are not all perfect (as they are Insurance Companies and designed to opportunistically reject a claim if possible) but Frank thus far has the best reviews.
Edit: Second best from Members Own.

    Cheers

Private health insurance is mostly a scam.

95% of people will be financially worse off by buying insurance.

    • i don't know why ozzie don't have the kind of insurance where the premiums you've paid aggregate into savings and after 25 years of no claim, you get back the sum.

do we have this kind of insurance ?

i know other country has it.

      • life insurance exists like that,

but it is usually a bad deal because of high fees and low investment returns.

  • Once you do decide on which company and cover to get consider signing up via an aggregator like comparethemarket or iselect, they often have eftpos gift card specials.

I change my health insurance provider on average every two years, always research independently n jump ship via one of those sites and bag a $200 - 300 eftpos gift card in the process. Direct sign up with the provider often gives you nothing in bonuses.
