eBay Description Said 100% Working GPU but It Was Wrong

So I bought a second hand r9 380 from eBay and the description of the item said it was in good condition and 100% working order BUT only 1/4 ports are working on it. I have 2 monitors and tried a bunch of cables and only the display port port on the graphics card works. When I try plug in another monitor, nothing appears in device manager so I think that confirms something is wrong with the ports because my old card works with it.

I think the problem is the other ports have a slight rusty look to them, so I messaged the seller asking him about the ports and he said all the ports work for him.

Not sure what to do, is there an easy fix to rusty ports? Should I ask for a partial refund? Or is my only option a full return? Any discussion on the topic is appreciated :)

I'll suggest the obvious to be safe - Make sure drivers are installed and up to date, and also try looking at AMDS control panel software, whatever it is. I know I sometimes I have to tell a graphics card to use a screen/port through that stuff.

    • This. Use DDU to remove all existing drivers and reinstall and see how it goes. If it still doesn't work then item not at described.

    • Cheers, I tried deleting drivers, and then installing latest drivers but unfortunately the same issue :(

you should ask for 75% refund

  • I think your best bet is to try it on a friends computer, else you might have to make a claim for 'significantly not as described'

    • I tried in my brothers PC but same issue, I think I have to go the refund route :( thanks anyway for the help

  • Return it for refund.

If they refuse then raise issue with eBay and use PayPal Protection to get refund.

    • Thank you, I'll have a look into this process as I can't find any other way to fix this, spent so long troubleshooting this :( Must be damaged ports or something, cheers for the comment

I run my Macbook through a display hub and then to my tv. When I first got it, didn't manage to get it working. Turns out the hub only sends video if it detects an before logging in. Was the same for doing video out in an older pc. So I would say reset with everything plugged in rather than plugging things in after login. Also need the right options set up, eg. two monitors etc.

  • Have you tried running 1 monitor on each of the ports?

Running dual monitor on AMD cards is quite a hassle sometimes.

  • Don't send it back unless it is through an ebay or PayPal return, otherwise they may keep the item and your money.
