Telstra Website ERROR - Are You with Telstra Simplicity? Overpriced MessageBank Charges Not Mentioned in Full Rates

Telstra Simplicity makes out it has cheap calls on Telstra but they have hidden charges that aren't even mentioned when you look under Full Rates. Messagebank (voicemail) costs $1.17 for 1st minute!

When you go to website to sign up https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/off…

If you look under full charges there is no mention of MessageBank charges only for Prepaid Extra & Long life- not on Simplicity.

I call Telstra today to mention about this and the call centre staff acknowledge the error on their site but say it is in the "Critical Information Summary". I don't know about you but I wasn't aware of Critical Information Summary and they should make it clearer and even consider sending out the Critical Information Summary if the website is going to be wrong with your contract.

If you have also not been aware of this charge I would suggest you contact Telstra to raise your concerns?

They offered a 50% refund of charges despite realising they made an error. Check it out on web link above.

  • The CIS is below the "Buy a $30 SIM" button?

I have always received a CIS when updating, renewing, or adding to my Telstra offerings. take the 50% refund and be happy id say.

  • That table is obviously a summary. Doesn't mention MMS rates either but I wouldn't assume they'd be free. The CIS is the full document of charges.

  • Thanks for your comments. The MMS charges are listed. I didn't receive a CIS when I signed up to this service on prepaid.

Do you think most consumers know to look at the Critical Information Summary prior to signing up to check the charges?

The message bank charges seems so much more than normal call rates. The full rates section mentions "Prepaid extra" and "Long life" have Message Bank charges but not Simplicity, so you would assume they would specifically mention it if there were charges?

  • Some alternative ways that save money on message bank access are noted here:

    • Accessing MessageBank via the 1800 number costs less than just dialing direct. A bit annoying to have to wait to go through the menu instead of being directly connected, but it adds up pretty quickly.
