eBay Items coming from Netherlands purchased from China supplier

Strangely a few of my recent online purchase items have been dispatched from Netherlands. Recent gearbest purchase (bike light) has come from Netherlands. same with a phone battery and replacement LCD, hdmi adapter and screen protector from various sellers on ebay.
Anyone else notice this trend too? Is there some benefit or have the Chinese have bought a chunk of Holland?
I can only assume its just supply chain and warehousing but it has only been recent that I've noticed items from a Chinese online store/ebay selling made in china products not come from China or Hong Kong or maybe its just me?

  • They are dispatched from wherever the Chinese can find cheap postage. Sometimes countries you hadn't heard of.

  • There are sneaky methods to avoid paying VAT / taxes (were applicable) and even last mile delivery charges
NL Post are the most popular option for this at the moment it seems

    • Do the sellers have a cache of inventory at a warehouse in nl? or do they bulk crate the consigned purchase and send it to to NL to be then seperated and mailed to Oz after we ozbargain gearbest?

      • Probably they have a warehouse in NL that serves Europe and other destinations.

        • PostNL has a warehouse in Hong Kong so the parcel will travel from China -> HK -> NL -> AU. It's all about customs (and taxes).

Unlike the others I have no idea but I did notice the same thing.

bit weird I can understand the seller wants to save on Tax but the cost of transporting items from one side of the world to the other to then send it to the bottom of the world must outweigh the cost of just paying the tax especially for small items for instance a hdmi adapter.

      • Meh, these are small things. Containers are very big so the shipping cost is tiny. Almost certainly costing Auspost much more for the "last mile".

  • Gearbest does that with certain items

  • Not I said the fly

    Yes, similar here.
Some months ago, I bought a cheap wristwatch and the postage label was stamped: "Ciudad del Este - Paraguay".

Ironically the city of Ciudad del Este, bordering with Brazil and relatively close to Argentina, is infested with illegal contraband … and known terrorist cells …

As mentioned above, postal regulations allow that kind of misuse and it is predominant in products from China as they pay virtually no postal charges … so we get all our shopping postage free!

Also, I very strongly believe the items are actually posted from inland China and NOT from overseas (Netherlands, Paraguay or wherever).

    • Whatever's going on, I'd love to know how the scam works.

Hopefully we're not assisting criminal endeavours in Ciudad del Este by diluting inbound/outbound contraband, for example.

It's ironic getting Chinese post supposedly from Paraguay, considering how it has recently set about becoming the "China of South America", thanks to it's cheaper labour costs and proximity to the wealthier countries of the region.

      • Whatever's going on, I'd love to know how the scam works.

Not 100% sure but it is about postal agreements within countries. "You post my parcels free, I post your parcels free" kind of thing. By agreement China Post will deliver, without extra charges, any mail from Netherlands, Paraguay etc etc. So the same goes for Australia delivering "free" mail from any other country.

No idea how they (China) manage to openly use "foreign post" labels and rubber stamps. It must be bordering the "legal" part of it.

Just today I got an eBay ordered parcel "from" Deutche Post … Germany!!! … Postage Paid (Port PayĆ©) by 60554 Frankfurt, Allemagne.

And it gets even worse: return address is Postfach 1100, 36243 Niederaula, Allemagne … a Post Office Box en Germany !!!!!!!
(may that is the key, China sellers having a POBox in those countries, so it is a "Post Office client" sending mail … all legal … Legal?)

about becoming the "China of South America"

        LOL How true!!!

  • what every one has to think, does every country have a factory in their country to manufacture these items,of course they do not,the greater amount of items listed on Ebay are originally manufactured in China and retail buyers buy them in bulk from China and sell the items as "Australian Stock", it is only fraud if the seller states that the items are "Made in Australia".
another thing is called "drop shipping",you contact a Chinese company that sell various items and they tell you how much it would cost you from them, then you put it on Ebay at a price that includes your profit and when some one purchases it and when you are paid you send the information to the Chinese company where it is to be posted to and it is then shipped from the Chinese company to the Australian address, just remember to read all terms and conditions and all updates

    • I think you missed the topic, items that are made in china are being shipped from other countries except china. We're not buying made in australia and we're not drop shipping. Its items listed by a Chinese seller in china and the item is coming from elsewhere not china.
