I saw this above website for only $49, wondering whether it's fake….

buy windows 7 and then free upgrade with the MS assistive technologies

You don't even need the assistive technologies loophole, you can do a clean install using the freely downloadable ISO image and apply a W7 key. I got mine off a defunct computer. I did this a while back and Paul Thurrott says it still works.

  • I've gotten Windows 10 (Digitally) through ozgameshop.com twice now when they've were on special (seems like every 1-2 months it's listed there cheap)

Got it once for $79 and a second time for $89. It's currently not on special though - so maybe wait for B-Friday/C-Monday or just check back every now and again?

It works, been using one over a year now and the other for 3-4 months with no problems. Can't speak for the 'legit' factor though as the price is very cheap. But the Website is above board with everything else and as mentioned; it works, so no reason to think it's not.

Note: it's a UK site, despite the name - just in case you look to buy something physical, postage can be slow if you choose the free/cheap options.

edit: it's windows 10 Pro, not home

  • what about MSY? it's $129 but what does OEM mean?

scroll down a bit to "software"

the OEM copies of windows seen at MSY are also known as "Microsoft OEM System Builder Licenses"

When you buy windows, what you are buying is not software, but rather, a license to use said software. OEM license just means that you use that software for 1 machine only, and only that machine until the day it dies or is replaced, and when you buy a new computer system you must purchase a new OEM license.

However, Microsoft are actually pretty relaxed about it, and you can probably transfer the license from 1 computer to another by simply tying the Windows entitlement to your online Microsoft Account (by simply choosing to login to account when you first begin your installation) and when you move from computer to computer, your license moves with you.

However the rule of 1 active license per 1 machine still applies — you can't install the same license on more than 1 machine simultaneously.

Also if you have a decomissioned computer lying around somewhere that has a Windows 7 or Win 8 key, you can salvage that and use it's key instead of having to spend money on a new license.
