Had a quick look at some images, looks like the 93 Hilux has a drivers airbag. If you remove the airbag it will make the car unroadworthy. If that's the case, the real Christmas present will be, in the best case scenario, a massive fine from the cops for driving an unroadworthy vehicle plus towing costs and maybe impounded (?). Worst case scenarios, gets involved in an accident and his insurance doesn't pay and he could potentially be finally crippled for many years. Or other scenario, he is involved in bad crash and he gets more serious injuries due to lack of airbag, they do save lives.

But that's all assuming it has an airbag, not many 1993 Hilux interior images going around.

    • Ambo's at accident site "oh sh!t! Look how his head smashed in to steering wheel….but it's a good looking steering wheel"

    • I own a 1995 Hilux, no airbag. I'd be very surprised if one from 1993 had one.

    • Not wrong there. But as pointed out, the 93 Lux doesn't have an airbag.

  • timber steering wheel and boss kit as a modification to car I was doing back in the 90's to a VL turbo… didn't realise that was still trendy.

got 90s car, need 90s trends.

      • I suppose..

  • Not aware of Airbags on Aussie Hilux's that old, this certainly doesn't have one, also aware of the risks mentioned etc, could get hurt a lot worse if he got the bike he originally wanted to get (this is his 1st car).

Current/original wheel is sun deteriorated, not legal so needs to be replaced anyway, he wants a timber one, good taste I reckon, can't think of better, had a few myself over the years in different rigs, including my boat, would have one now on my Pathy but would have to muck around with airbag etc…

    Anyhow, no replies to Q
