Recent Graduate, Are There Any Free Courses/Certificates to Add to Resumé?

Hi everyone,

I've recently graduated in which I've been looking to spice up my resume for when I begin applying for full-time jobs.
I have a long tenure at my current job as well as being promoted, I've finished university with a reasonable GPA as well as
completing an internship at a worldwide dealership. I feel I could improve my resume with some certificates and any voluntary efforts.

I'd love to know some free ones, if not on the cheaper side that is worth sticking on there.

Thanks!

Do you mean without actually 'doing' the voluntaty work?

    • No, I was looking for something worth pursuing that looks good to add to a resume.

I think it might depend a little on your field. You can get a certificate for touch typing, word and excel fairly cheaply and easily.
You could look into microaccreditation. I haven't tried it, but it seems interesting. Here is a podcast link https://goo.gl/M3egvJ.
Deakin is also offering the microaccreditation, but they are aimed at mid career people.

  • As with most things it depends on your field of work. Sometimes free ones are not worth the line you use to showcase them in your resume. For Word and Excel skills I generally advise people to take them off as most office jobs would assume those at a basic minimum. If you have Advanced Elite level excel though.. that may warrant including.

An example of free courses when they are relevant could be if you're doing Marketing and you do some Hubspot inbound marketing certifications (e.g. https://academy.hubspot.com/ )
These would be useful if you were doing relevant career roles.
