Hey all, so I'm new in Australia. But I've noticed the Xbox one is considerably cheaper than the PS4. Currently you can get an XBox one with AC Origins and SWBF2 for 329. But the cheapest PS4 I can find is like 399 with no games.
Is this just because Sony haven't release new deals? Or does Xbox tend to be cheaper here? I really want a PS4 again as I have a huge digital library, but with the price difference I'm tempted by Xbox!
Just no deals at the moment, you do occasionally get really good PS4 bundles, but generally you can get the XBOX ONE S cheaper than the PS4.
I paid $269 for my XBOX ONE S from Target who often have really good XBOX ONE S deals going on. I would however recommend a PS4 as they have a lot more exclusives, and if you're looking at it purely from a hardware standpoint, the GPU on the XBOX ONE S is 1.39tf versus 1.86tf (these numbers are off the top of my head so I may not have them 100% correct, but the point is, between the two, you'd get slightly better graphics/framerates from the PS4). So it's not as if you're not getting something extra for your $$$. Having said that, the XBOX ONE S also plays UHD blu rays, but if you don't have a 4K TV, which I assume you don't given you're looking at the base models rather than the XBOX ONE X/PS4 Pro then that feature probably won't matter to you anyway.
Again, just my opinion, they are both good consoles, but have a look at the exclusives and use that as your deciding factor. If all you care about is the shared games, then either would work, but I do think it is worth spending a bit more and picking up the PS4 as it has really amazing exclusives out now and even more dropping soon.
Having said all that, I'd wait for a deal to come up for the 4 as they do come up, black Friday is a good bet that there will be specials.
Well one thing is that I already have a PS Plus sub, and a lot of digital games. Where as Xbox, I haven't owned since 360, so no digital games, and no sub. But I do want AC Origins which comes with the Xbox for 319 (price has dropped 10dollar on Bigw)
I do not have a 4k TV and probably won't be investing any time soon!
Maybe I will just have to be patient and wait for Black Friday, see what deals come up!
Have you been accepting the free PS4 titles on PS Plus? Because you should note the PS4 is not backwards compatible with PS3 games. If you have, there has recently been some really good free games on plus, including Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
I dunno, if you currently use the PS3 and already have a PSPlus subscription, then I think it puts more weight on picking up a PS4. If you don't mind waiting, I'm sure a decent deal will pop up on the PS4 soon enough.
With games like Nier: Automata, Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted, The Last of Us 2 (still in development) and Street Fighter V (which is finally getting arcade mode in January) it is the console I would go for. There are many more, but those are some highlights.
yep I've been picking up all the PS4 games. I used to have a PS4, but I'v been travelling. Just want a new console, I miss gaming! I do really want Nier, and Horizon to be fair!
Yeah I think you're right, maybe I'll just wait. I'm being suckered in by the 319 price tag of the Xbox, but my heart is with PS4. Plus I really want to get back onto my Nioh Save! HOpefully some good deals come up soon before I get itchy fingers! haha
Haha, sounds like you know what you want. Good luck, I reckon black Friday which is only a week away would probably have some good deals, just keep your eyes open and jump if you see a good deal. Don't be too hung up on AC: Origins, there will always be opportunities to pick it up on the cheap down the line. For example, I've been wanting Resident Evil 7, waited a while, and I recently got it from OZGameshop for $31 shipped :).

Yep, as I said, black Friday is usually a good day to buy stuff :), just make sure you get in early and get what you want, no point showing up at 5pm cause they will all be sold out… Best of luck man!
The Xbox One has always been really aggressive on pricing - PS4 has been dominant here because of their game exclusives so haven’t been compelled to drop pricing so much. Neither company makes money really from the console itself - it’s all the accessories and licensing fees from games that make the games business worthwhile.
Its retailers that do most of the discounting - if Xbox is slow moving they’d be more inclined to drop prices to clear stock.
My philosophy on OzBargain is the cheapest is the best.

I would get PS4 for the exclusives. Prefer Horizon and Uncharted series to Forza series. Did get a lot of value out of FH3 but I have it on PC anyway.

Ever since the removal of Kinect, Xbox has typically been cheaper here in Australia, especially this generation. I think given how well PS4 has sold across the board, Sony have very little incentive to discount too much. They are still selling like hot cakes globally. That’s my take anyway.
