JB Hi-Fi Refund Policy on Unopened items?

Anyone know? Or even better, anyone who works there ? I found this and it says yes it's OK to refund. Will this link hold up? I've had bad experiences with faulty and not as advertised items on the past.

TLDR; Can we refund new unopened still sealed items? Bought last week for friend's birthday present but he already has it and doesn't want it. I don't want store credit. Extra Item it came with is slightly damaged, so it was damaged before I bought it.

I bought something last week and it came with an extra item. Didn't check, just put it away in a cupboard till I got it still in the bag. Do you think they'll refund me? Will they force me to have store credit? I weeded them and they ignored me. I called the store and guy I spoke to gave the vaguest non-committal response.

Your TLDR is just as long as the story.

      Actually, its longer.

OP wants to know if JB will give a refund for a change of mind purchase, they claim extra item was damaged at time of purchase.

      • Ding ding ding! You're correct. The item I purchased is not damaged.

      • Thanks

Appreciate your valuable and informative response.

  • If it's damaged, you're entitled to a replacement. If it's completely broken and/or completely not as advertised, you're entitled to your choice of replacement or refund.

You don't have any entitlement to a refund for "change of mind".

    • You don't have any entitlement to a refund for "change of mind".

From the link, it seems like he does if it is unused, unopened, and packaging in good condition(which apparently doesn't seem to be the case).

      • From the link:

To obtain a refund or any other remedy please visit your nearest JB Hi-Fi store or contact us via our website at www.jbhifi.com.au/contact-us. You will be required to provide proof of purchase from JB HI-FI. JB HI-FI needs to be satisfied that the product is faulty, the cause of the fault and that the problem with the goods was not your fault.

Edit: I note I see what the table says, but the document doesn't actually say that it's an entitlement anywhere.

      • The product is fine (that I paid for), it's in perfect condition. However the extra item I got (didn't pay for) was damaged.

        • They can replace or refund that item, just because it's one transaction doesn't mean they have to refund or replace all the items together.

Also - very convenient that the free item just happens to be broken when you discovered your friend had the other item already and wanted to get a refund…

        • @0blivion: appreciate your vote of confidence. I, and assuming many others, don't generally check what we buy. I tend to think most things we buy are not defective or faulty.

    • The actual item I paid for is not damaged. The extra free item was damaged though and I didn't notice until yesterday.

why don't you go to a JB HI store and find out your self?

      What? thats crazy talk

Because he probably can't be (profanity) going to the store lol

  • I'm trying to see if others, in a similar situation to myself, have been successful in obtaining a refund.

  • I have returned items to JB and got a refund in the past (I can't remember if it was gift cards or credit card refund). However, this was quite a while ago things may have changed. If you've got any hope then all the seals need to be intact to indicate it hasn't been opened and you will need the receipt.

  • I've gotten refunds before but it really depends what it is I guess and the staff discretion.

  • Will they force me to have store credit?

Do you have a receipt? If not, then yes you're only entitled to a store credit.

    • No store credit will be given unless proof of purchase can be presented. Receipts can be reprinted but you must provide the date it was purchased, the store, and the item purchased. Refunds will be given to the choice of original payment method or gift card. If original payment method was EFTPOS/card payment, the refund must go back onto the original card.

  • I've done it but it was not a pleasant experience as the attendant treated me like a thief. Glad they refunded me the retail price & not the sale price, I might have mentioned the mistake if they were a little nicer to me. Anyway ended $200 up that day

    • did you not have the receipt?

      • I had the receipt

        • then they refunded the full price by mistake?
