Do the gold plated, diamond encrusted blades wear out in this model?

  • Really excellent price. the Vitamix blenders are top-notch, and as you say, it's worth around 1300 dollars normally.

    • +3

      its still a blender

      • +1

It's not a blender, it's a nutrient extractor. Oh wait, wrong product!

  • On my way to buy a TNC 5200 at the moment. Is there really much benefit to the 750 Pro?

new one is coming out so I'd expect these to be discounted further if you are willing to wait.
Note: New models have same RRP as these older models. Advised to wait!

    Serious question.
What would be the $700 (rrp 1200) differentiating factor between this and say a $100 nutribullet?

    • Maybe reliability and http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/food/food-warnings/a-popula…

Seriously, I don't know about the Nutribullet, but have a Optimum 9400 and one of these Vitamix's. The difference is night and day.

The Optimum has broken down 3 times (repaired each time, but away for weeks and cost $24 for postage each time).

The Vitamix is quieter and blends quite a bit better and faster than the Optimum (despite the bs Optimum have on their website comparing to a different Vitamix).

      • blends quite a bit better

        Er … OK.

        • +1

          Meaning?

By better i mean more consistently and less chunks left.

      • My $77 Philips one still run after 5 years.

        • +1

So…how many nut butters have you tried to make?

        • @kahn: Yes, nut butters and frozen bananas seem to kill blenders.

The Optimum was good to start with, but just kept going intermittent and losing power.
I might have been unlucky and got a bad one, but after 3 repairs just ran out of patience with it.

      • My Optimum 9400 hasn't missed a beat in five years. Sorry to read yours hasn't fared well.

    • I've had cheapies but have had a vitamix for about the last 10 years. If you're not doing heavy duty blends like green smoothies, nut butters, etc. then the cheapy will usually do. You'll know when you need a vitamix when the cheapy claps out and/or starts leaking; I didn't for years until I started pushing it harder.

OzBargain needs a sub forum called OzYuppieBargain

For 99% of people $1000 blenders are truly a luxury item no matter what the discount

    • Not at all.

We never would thought we'd pay that much for a blender until we'd been through a quite a few cheap ones….including the Optimum, which proved to be an expensive dud.

We saved for several months and waited until it was discounted last year to ~$1000 at Myer.
      Our family uses it everyday.

      • +3

So you decided because you had a semi expensive dud you should spend two to three times as much rather than just thinking there's probably a semi expensive or cheaper competitor that is more reliable?

  • Yes.
We got sick of buying "semi expensive or cheaper competitor" duds.

    What one is more reliable?
I'm genuinely interested for when the Vitamix breaks down and the warranty runs out.

Do you actually have this Vitamix to compare reliability and performance?

    • I think you're just going on the defensive because you threw a tonne of money at a blender that could have been spent better elsewhere. Nutribullets and nutrininjas work just fine and extended warranty for them cost 60 bucks or less. Some extended warranties are immediate replacements also. You can't justify to me spending 700 to 800 bucks more just because it lasts longer or makes smoother smoothies, that's a joke.

      • ROFL, whatever you reckon….
I've probably saved money and a lot of time by not buying Nutrbullets and Nutrininjas that would end up in the bin……or backwards and forwards getting fixed or replaced like the Optimum has….

As Kahn said above, try making nut butters or using frozen ingredients most of the time like I do.
…..and before you say it, most blenders can crush ice, but not many consistently blend frozen fruit.

Horses for courses…..I could never spend the amount people do on coffee and coffee makers when Blend 43 or some other cheap instant coffee tastes the same to me……

        • -1

Yes you've saved money by splurging an extra 800 bucks…

Your tone says it all. The number of positives on your post says it all too.

Funny though, a pretty decent espresso machine goes for half the price of this blender with no accessories. Gimmick for those bought into high price equals high quality.

    IT’S A BLENDER!!!

    • -2

Wow, you're sharp. How long did it take to figure that out?

      • I like your style Price Jack.

      • -1

?? wtf. Go back to sleep fool.

  • They are awesome and I used to have one (my ex has it now). But so so expensive!

I just bought one of the eBay commercial blenders (called a polycool or something) and it is RAD. So powerful. $85. I can blow up 9 of these before I will feel that I should have bought the Vitamix, and that's with the Vita on special. Ridiculous.

I don't know if the random nutriwhatsits are any good but the one I have is the real deal.

  • Just got my TNC 5200 and it’s absolutey brilliant. My old NutriBullet was good and handled frozen bananas and the like no worries but having the speed control on this is handy as and when you put it on high it’s scary powerful.

Seriously would recommend spending the money on this if you use a blender often. If you don’t, stick with your cheaply if you’re happy with it.
