7 Seat Car Rental in Sydney

Hi everyone,

I try to find car rental service, to book for a car to drive from Sydney to Canberra this Chrismast, 4 adults with 2 kids (3 & 5 years old). To my surprise I checked Avis, Hertz, Goget, all are full booked from 20/12 to 27/12, although it is just November. I guess because this is Christmas season.

So which website/service do you usually use to book rental car, which is reliable, reasonable price? So I can take a look and find 7 seat option.

Thank

I usually use Hertz because they have a location near my home.

    • Thank, those have great prices. Unfortunately sold out of people mover (Carnival, Tarago)

However, I think Outlander has 7 seats, why most of sites state it has 5 seats only.

      • It comes in 2 models, 5 seat and 7 seat.

Big difference in size between Tarago and Outlander though

        • Yeah, I like Tarago. Most people like it too so this is the reason why it run out quickly.

How about using one of the Peer to Peer Car rentals like these here.

  • yes car next door is a great option, could even be cheaper if you don't drive that much. $5 booking fee + $0.33/km

    • After calculation the total trip around 600km from Sydney to Can and go back. So end up with 300+0.33*600 = 500$
Not big different with big guy AVIS with bus 12 seats, 640$ with comprehensive insurance

    Orana

    • Sign up for an account and very happy when they have the car I want, make a booking.

… then finally they reject it, because I have P1 license. Have it for 13 months with 0 demerit points.

What a good business. Why don't tell me the first time :( however I thank you. probably I will come back after 4 years.

Oh com'on, you know perfectly well why someone wouldn't want to lend a car to someone on a P1 licence.

        • I would not be angry if the website state at first point, in Term and Condition. It does not state that P1 will not allowed to use the service. After going through the long process of registering (4 steps with face, driving license, debit card verify,…). Spending around 30mins on that, after 30 mins of submission, I got the email of decline the application.

          Yes, that frustrating.

Does not stop there, now I cannot log back in to see the status, they said:

Your account has been temporarily restricted, please contact Car Next Door (02) 8035 8000

        • I do know the risk of provisional drivers, so I purchased comprehensive insurance for my own car, as well as dashcam…
I am not hesitate to purchase more insurance for the rental vehicle. but unfortunately, provisioning drivers like me will have to wait at least 3 years to use the service.

@haisergeant: It's probably not an automatic "P1 licence = cannot hire", but just a big factor amongst a few factors. The fact you're wanting to hire a bigger vehicle is probably a factor.

On the plus side, the $1 debit is a hold - it's temporary and is automatically refunded after about 24hrs or so usually.

Car hire operators aren't trying to make money by scamming $1 at a time, don't know where you get that idea.

        • @0blivion:

Thank, I think so. Now need to work out how to get to Canberra, since the hotel is already booked. I underestimate renting a car is much harder booking hotel in peak season.

Found some cars on Gumtree but hesitate to contact :(
