Suggestion
in each deal add a "Worth it?" voting poll for the item.

what's the difference to normal voting?

Negative voting is dead. Even if something costs more than another deal, negative votes usually get deleted.

This way, we're allowed to show some preferences without people getting offended about their post of the 'best bargain if you have cashback & some niche rewards card that almost no one owns'

to determine if the product/service is worth it after using the product.
That way we know if it's a true bargain.

    • To Each Their Own….

    • Do you mean like a review option for the product?

My own feeling is that is best left to sites like productreview where you are able to put in a detailed review, as my sense is that something that is just good or bad is likely to be confusing and not that informative.

Edit: didn't read further down, refer to scrimshaw's post below where they'd already said what I said.

    No

Nope. Each item has different value of "worth" for each person. Any score would be pointless without also knowing why people think it's "worth it".

    • that can be said about the current up/down voting

      • Not really. The current deal-voting is skewed towards up-votes, with negs needing a justification behind them.
Unless you want to use the same system as comment votes?

This post needs a 'Worth it' poll, so I can vote No

  • +3

It's really hard to sum up 'worth it' in just a binary vote up/down system

ProductReview.com would be what most people turn to when they want to find out of a particular shop, good or service is worth it or not

Another issue we see is the 'echo chamber' effect where something that is perceived as negative is repeated by users over and over again until the problem seems much worse than it actually is. Example of this: Optus SIM card activation woes and the higher than usual number of neg votes on the Optus $30 Prepaid SIM product

  • It's an empathy rating by stealth.
