Single LED solar powered outdoor downlight

I would like to install a reliable LED downlight powered by a solar panel. I will be fixing it above a pathway and would like it to switch on at darkness (or even a motion detector type). Can someone recommend a panel/bulb/battery/controller that would be suitable?

I believe a single 2W LED would be strong enough. I would like the system to be at least IP65 to avoid any water intrusion issues and if required relatively easy to change out when it fails (I understand solar panels are not yet the most reliable)

  • The Reject Shop has a couple. One a solar shed light(~$20 IIRC), the other a 60 LED security light, last seen at $30 in their October catalogue.

I guess something similar to this? There are many styles and types. Simple search on gearbest or aliexpress will give some options.

Those are pretty good. I have one. They can be bought off eBay for ~$8 for a 30 LED light

      here for $8.49 delivered

      • just purchased 3 - 2 left.

        Bargain !

  • Thanks for suggestions - would it be possible to source a solar panel with this type of water type connector to power the light in the link below reliably for night time use or motion detection?

Its a 2W 12V LED light - I am using these already in the garden with the inverter using main power supply. Unfortunately the walkway is not close to a main power outlet hence the solar solution.

If you must have that style light It's probably easier to buy an all in one solar powered sensor light unit of similar wattage and then get your soldering/fabrication skills to switch the LED to the one you want. Sure, it's possible to build a unit by buying a solar panel, sensor, battery, box, wires etc but if you buy something already built its all there, and will probably work out cheaper. Snip the wires off the other LED and solder them to your own.
