Future of OzBargain on Arrival of Amazon

Do we need to be worried about the future of ozbargain, considering that Amazon is going to start operating from today?

Most likely won't see much deals from other Aussie retailers and I fear the site being flooded with deals from GearBest and banggood.

What do you guys think? Ozbargain…

    Troll poll?

People will post deals they see from Amazon. Why is this even a question?

Go to HotUKDeals and see whether they manage a few deals despite Amazon being a big player ;)

  • Hopefully other retailers become more competitive after Amazon arrives!

Amazon is not going to be some miracle company that will always have the cheapest prices. Some things will be cheaper and some won't, either way it won't effect OZBargain as this is a site for posting bargains regardless of where they come from.

      Thankyou!

I don't know why everyone is saying it's going to be such a big thing… Sure there will some things, but not everything.

    • But maybe their delivery network (when up and running) will be a miracle compared to Auspost snail mail and their overpaid execs?

    • If it is 'fulfilled by Amazon' then there might be some good deals but the other sellers can just be like Ebay sellers with high silly prices.

More deals = better for ozbargain?

I see Ozbargain becoming more popular then ever.

Over the past few days, I've never seen so many bargains being posted.

OzBargain is a community driven bargain sharing website. If anything Amazon will increase the number of deals we see here and possibly encourage merchants to become more competitive.

Better question to ask would be —

    • Future of Harvey Norman / JB Hi-Fi / David Jones / etc on Arrival of Amazon

Now I would like to know who voted "Will not survive" in the poll above…

    • I think JBs will still be the main survivor, just on face value and no research they seem to be the ones that sharpen the pencil more often. HN and DJs etc rely on the 'mums and dads' to come in and pay RRP

    • Now I would like to know who voted "Will not survive" in the poll above…

For you, that should be one database query away, followed by a "penalty box" INSERT :)

Sounds like Amazon have a lot to live up to. It appears we're all expecting a full product range, same day delivery and 50% discounts.

I really doubt that the Amazon launch is going to live up to the hype. As Australians are masters at Tally Poppy Syndrome, this mis-match between reality and expectation is going to be nit-picked with negativity.

'Australia tax!' 'Still cheaper in the US' 'Not available here!'

    • 50% discount??
      this aint woolies mate

More competitors, more deals, happier OzBargainers.

And conversely if Amazon drives everyone out of business…

Less deals, more demand for deals, more need for OzB.

    Win/win.

  • Amazon are going to be delivering my groceries and my grocery bill will be half what it is at Coles, that's what I tell myself anyway, so we should welcome Amazon.

    competition = good for consumers

    • Unless it's monopolistic competition - which is exactly what Amazon is.

amazon will cut the crap from businesses like Harvey Norman, Myer, DJ, etc. They will have to adapt if they have to survive..sadly small businesses will be hurt as well..especially ones which do not start selling their products on Amazon

  • There’s so much crap on eBay etc. at least amazon allows reviews etc which I find super useful
