I'm looking to bargain on a printer with cheap ink/toner. I don't mind if the ink/toner is generic branded or if the actual cost for the printer is high (sub $200?) but its more important that the cost per page is low as I will be printing documents with lots of pages.

I have a cheap Brother HL-2270DW laser duplex at home that does the job just fine for occasional use. Quite happy with it.
We’ve got one at home that’s been running strongly since 2009. Generic toner and drums are dirt cheap for this machine, and resetting the flag counter isn’t difficult.
I have a Brother HL-2270DW — WiFi, duplex, monochrome laser, etc. It works well and the 3rd party toners are cheap on eBay. The newer versions — HL-L2340DW can be had for under $100 (for example The Good Guys) and has Google Cloud Print support so you can easily print from your Chromebook or Android phones.
I use a Fuji xerox p265dw as my personal printer in my room. I use approximately one ream of paper every month and so far it hasn’t skipped a beat. Print quality is slightly better than the Brother HL-2270DW.

Laser is ALWAYS going to be cheaper to run and if you don't want colour, its the way to go.
