Shipping Goods from Overseas GST etc

If you ship stuff from overseas and your close to the $1000 limit your allowed, what's the chances items go through without even customs looking to see what it is.
Or do then check every box with document to see what values are?
I'm just a little under $1000.
Do they charge GST etc if under $1000 and what about shipping, I take this does not affect the limit of $1000.
Or even insurance which is probably a third party.
I'm lead to believe if your goods are over $1000 then shipping and whatever charges are added you pay extra but if it's under nothing effects this.

Can anyone confirm.

It's the cost of the goods only. If under 1000.00 you will be fine.

And what about if your items are valued for customs at xxx amount but your shipper only offers basic insurance and you take out this insurance but its xxxx amount in insurance due to what it might cost now to buy or replace these items if no longer available.
I take customs dont see or consider the third party insurance just what's been paid.
Obviously i paid xxx amount to get these items over 5 or 6 months buying but now that some are harder to get etc i want to insure for more than whats quoted for insurance is this ok?

If it is under the $1000 limit it will go through. However customers may still be on the lookout for items that have been under declared.

Just the value of the goods - excluding shipping and insurance.

You will get charged additional fees as well as GST if over $1000.

You should also consider if importing an expensive item - over $1000 - if it worth the extra drama with warranty, repair etc etc
