Active (Powered) Outdoor Speakers

Hi All,

I'm after a set of active outdoor speakers to mount under eaves in my pool area.

Getting power and cabling to it is not a problem; if I have to have a standalone control unit elsewhere that is acceptable.

Bonus points for direct 3.5mm or RCA source input.

Also open to non-active speakers if people can suggest a relatively cheap way to drive them.

Do you currently have an AV receiver and if so does it have Zone 2?

For example, a 7.2 channel network AV receiver that has Zone 2 can cater of outdoor speakers.
Select Zone 2 for the outdoor speakers (passive) and then you can control the music .. etc via an iPhone/Android app remotely if the receiver has Wifi. You can also use a music USB into the receiver and not worry about 3.5mm connector degradation.

Usually the later mid-tier receivers and up have Zone 2 over HDMI so if you want to place an outdoor screen in future is doable (for watching TV/video etc)

All you have to do is have speaker wires that connect to the back of the receiver.

With powered speakers, you would still need an input source, power and RCA connectors (however RCA over 10m degrades and need XLR imo)
A source with XLR out are generally more expensive.

    Cheers

    • This is the best idea. If you are doing your main family entertainment system as well and need a new AV receiver it’ll work well.

Pair it with a google play or Apple TV or Sonos and anyone with a phone can connect.

  • Ok thanks - I ended up with a 7.2 network AV receiver as recommended above
