Are Switch Games Sealed New?

So I received my Mario Switch bundle from the Gamesmen on Friday and Mario wasn't sealed and neither was the Switch box. In fact there was a slight black mark on the interior of the the Switch packaging box as though a cord had rubbed or something from being removed and replaced. I just shrugged it off and assumed it may have happened when they were packing it at the Nintendo factory. A bit annoying as I like collecting the packaging and keeping it mint with my gaming gear.

Fast forward to today and Zelda and Mario Kart arrive, shrink wrapped in plastic.

What's the go?

The Switch box isn't sealed, it's the same with 2DS and 3DS Xls.
I'm not sure about the games because mine were bought preowned or from Target/Big W which open the cases.
From memory though there is no consistency with Nintendo shrinkwrapping their games.

I wouldn't think too much about games not being shrink wrapped, unless purchasing them from private sellers on ebay.

Many stores like Big W / EB Games often open the cases and store the games behind the counter.

Yep, have always received games with the shrink wrap taken off at EB. Purchased a game today at Big W, however was surprised that it was sealed, so maybe not all Big W stores do this?

Same for me with the Switch packaging from Gamesmen, it was all good in the end.

I just received my bundle from the GamesMen: Console was in plastic wrapping/bubble wrap for screen and in the original box, but nothing was sealed. The game (MK8) was sealed in plastic.

I got mine from the gamesmen too. Console box and game not sealed (switch and everything else was in its wrapping), but that doesn't phase me.

Purchased Zelda from Big W and that was shrink wrapped. Doesn't really matter though, as long as it works I'm happy.

I've had them different from different places some wrapped others not
I've got a new switch Mario bundle in front of me, that i opened just to answer for you (bought brand new from HN couple of weeks ago) and Mario odyssey is not wrapped in the box. if that makes you feel any better.

I don't have the limited edition black mark on the box though.

    • Heh, I should chuck a broden and sell it for $900 on ebay being it's a special edition and all.

        you never know lol

BTW the actual box wasn't sealed either but we saw them take it out the larger box from Nintendo with their whole shipment in.

I don't think first party nintendo games come shrinkwrap upon release. Only the second print run they come in shrinkwrap as is the case with the zelda and mk8 copy you got.

    • I don't know why you got negged, but have a +1 on me. That's weird if Nintendo don't shrink wrap first print editions.

  • Thanks all for your responses. I thought it would be a bit hit and miss and nothing nefarious, especially considering Odyssey has only just came out.

  • 3/4 of the games I have bought from EB and BIGW have all shrink-wrapped, however these games were behind the counter/collectors editions etc.

However, the zelda game i got the gamesman wasn't. I assume they might have put the map in inside.
