When to Buy a New Car near The Silly Season

I need to look for a new car due to a change in work and needing to travel more.

Does anyone know when the best deals are between now and mid-January?

Also best website for car reviews - the automobile association ones are older models.

Thanks

Make sure they got the car in stock, even before or after :)

Go on you tube and check out the channel 'AutoexpertTV' he gives some good tips on buying/negotiation/things to look out for.

He also gives some shit recommendations. One of his recent ones was to use a broker to buy the car… such a horrible suggestion.

        of course………..

i'm rural and my last purchase of a new car was through a broker, who saved me $2500 over the local stealership, who really wasn't interested in anything other than RRP (less a couple of percent)

don't be so dismissive, a broker can work, if you know what you want and already have a rough price from your local stealership or if you choose not to live in a sprawling metropolis and breathe clean fresh air and enjoy greenery not concrete and asphalt

        • It's not hard to get prices, and compare prices, if you show conviction. Be somewhat committed to purchase and you'll get a deal, ask for someone's best price and you wont.

Brokers charge a fee, anywhere from $500 to a percentage (1-2%). This all comes off the best possible bottom line price. Effectively you've just paid that because you can't negotiate.

        • @Spackbace:

          BS

i can negotiate very very well and have achieved significant savings on numerous items in the last 40 years

HOWEVER, it's impossible to negotiate, when you have one stealership in the area (nearest 400km) that simply won't budge on price

what do you suggest in that scenario? mr stealership?

have you ever lived more than 15k's from anything?

      • Take the good with the bad and form a better opinion/understanding then the one op has I guess.

        • But that's the thing, people need to understand that this guys viewpoint isn't gospel, and most of what he says is actually 10-15yo advice. Industry has changed and he hasn't kept up.

        • @Spackbace:

Judging by your below comments, You work at a car dealership I assume? any inside info? best way to get a good deal? also what brand. Lol

          @TheBilly:

          he's suzuki

not a great brand (in cars), very good for motorbikes though

and what Cadogan says has a lot of merit. He challenges the status quo, which is what stealerships despise. They thrive on smoke and mirrors. Lies and deceit. That they are special and cars have some magical quality. THEY DON'T, they are a consumable. Car salesmen are snakes. The games they play to extract the most money from buyers is disgusting, which is why most decent people regard them as lowlifes. Real estate agents, same same.

          All IMO.

          :)

        • @oscargamer:

Actually no I'm Toyota (have been for 6 months and I have mentioned it countless times) and was previously Suzuki & Holden. The Swift reliability (and resale) and Jimny/Grand Vitara reliability would prove you otherwise. I still put those models in the league of Toyota reliability.

Oh and they also make bloody good outboard motors.

You know modern car salespeople don't play games? How can we, when 1 bad social media review can annihilate our business and get us sacked. My pay packet has a bonus attached to good CSI, and by good I mean over 90%. You realise how many people don't like scoring 9s and 10s in surveys? Yeah but I need them to.

The price is listed on the window, and on the manufacturer website. Completely transparent. You want less then negotiate, simple. Don't like your trade value? I don't really care, go sell it privately, means nothing to me.

We love referrals. If you love our business, you will hopefully tell family and friends and they'll buy from us. That doesn't happen if we lie and cheat and steal.

We work 60hrs/week over 6 days with 1 rdo/fortnight. We work to pay the bills and feed our families, no different to anyone else commenting.

As I said, yours, and John the non-expert's opinions are outdated and maybe brought on by old stereotypes. Modern day salespeople have to offer nothing but the best service for any possible chance of career survival.

Don't tarnish us all with the same brush. Every industry has idiots.

        • @Spackbace:

Thats awesome !! Toyota is a solid brand. Any chance you can PM me the cost price on a Toyota Hilux SR5 (Auto) (4×4) (dual cab) (no options) (in stock colour) (:D) - If you could be so generous I can attempt to become the first human being that got a discount on a hilux lol

Between Christmas and New Years, that's when we'll do the best deal, provided you know exactly what you want.

    • is it true that sometimes dealers will sell a car with a large discount in order to meet a monthly/ financial year quota ?

      • We all have targets to hit, from individual salespeople to departments to dealerships.

There are limits to what the Manager will sign off on, but generally around Christmas and even January you wanna do what you can to get rid of an in stock model. If it's an order then it depends

  • Thanks guys, you've given me some things to think about. Now I'll keep my research going on which car to buy…
