Want to Buy Laptop for Uni, Budget Is $1500- $1800

I want to spend a decent amount so it lasts the next 4 years of my degree. Main Uses would be

  • Microsoft office
  • web browsing (a lot of tabs open)
  • watching videos

I already have a PC which i use for photo editing and games, so this would be mostly for uni and when I travel.

Priorities

  • light weight
  • 2-in-1
  • fast

Not fussed on graphics card.

Dell just had 25% off some of its inspirion 2 in 1s which looked decent.
I’m looking to buy before February next year so not in a hurry.

If you've got till Feb, and you're not fussy, I'd just not create a search alert for laptop https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/laptop?t=b (create alert) and wait for a deal.

    Otherwise see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/320899

    • Thank you! I’m going to look into Lenovo’s, they seem really popular and I want to purchase one in store (JB or Harvey normal etc. ). I’ve also set up the alert, didn’t know you could do that!

      • If you really want to save, look at getting a lenovo from the USA. You should be able to get an X series for 1800 AUD. (Much better build quality than the E series JB would sell)

Levovo has a significant Australia tax

    Dont' buy inspirons.

Buy Latitude from the dell outlet. Just do it! You won't regret it.

    • I have the option of salary sacraficing the laptop (uni is for work) so I’m not sure I can purpose refurbished models.. I’ll look into it though

      • Then buy 'as new'. It's basically brand new

        • They have some really good deals on the XPS models.. never bought anything refurbished before, what would I expect?

  • Dell XPS 2 in 1?

  • xiaomi notebook pro

    • This does look nice, but I can’t see where to buy in Australia? I was hoping to buy the laptop from somewhere like JB or Harvey Norman for the warranty factor.

      • You can get it from online retailers like banggood gearbest and lightinbox

Warranty should be fine but you have to send it back to China for repair

  • Best Laptops under $1000 for Uni, voted by the OzBargain community members. Yes these are under your budget, and none of them are 2-in-1 (other than underpowered Lenovo Miix).

However rather than getting something $1800 for 4 years, maybe getting something ~$1200, selling that after 2 years and getting another $1200 laptops.

  • macbook pro 13, small and fast.

    • I'm not a fan of apple for pcs, I have an iPhone and ipad but would prefer a windows laptop

      • Just buy the Macbook, you'll realise how wrong you are after owning it for a week. Especially if you have an iphone, the integration is amazing.
