Laptop Screen Protector Doesn't Stick

Hey guys,

Real quick: I ordered an anti-closs matte screen protector for my dad's laptop from eBay and I'm noticing it doesn't self adhere (I actually have two so if I've borked the first one I still have the 2nd in a wrapper).

How are you supposed to make them stick to the screen?

Some Googling shows you're supposed to use steam for mobile screens at least - how can that possibly work as a permanent adhesive I don't know. Is that appropriate for a lappy?

Shouldn't the screen protector itself have something sticky on it already (no dirty jokes)???

There are 2 types of screen protectors — dry apply and wet apply.

With wet applications, you typically need a drop of dish soap and a small amount of water which you will mist the protector with (and also wet your hands so they don't stick to your hands)

The seller and listing should make it clear whether it requires water or not. In either case, the screen that you're trying to apply to must not be dirty or dusty.

  • It depends on the type, but 'zagg' and a few other ones require you to use soapy water (slightly), and apply it.

But have you actually read the instructions?….

    • There were two little stickers holding the pack together with some Chinese symbols and the numbers 1 and 2. I needed more information.

That usually means you're supposed to take out number one 1st (the sticky part). Once you've applied this onto your screen, you take the 2nd one off.

Ok that's good to know. I'll try that with the spare now.

First time I just pulled off both. Well interpreted - it's my first time screen protector adhering myself.

  • I seem to be having more luck with it now, touch wood. It may have depended on the side, but I swear I tried both before. Persevering…

  • Ok,it's sticking now, thanks.

Hard to get the bubbles out/minimised. Would the soapy water help with that? I'm using a credit card so far with mixed results.

    • use a bit of soapy water to lubricate the protector and then use CC to scrape out as much bubbles if you can

don't scrape too hard otherwise you'll just scratch the protector.

      • Yeah, I found some lens cleaner. Man, this is a learning experience. A novice could do this for hours trying to get every last bubble out. I've heard they dry out with the liquid so maybe I'll do what I can for now see how it looks in a few days.

        • yes bubbles should either shrink or go away on their own after some time

  • Thanks guys. We'll see how it goes.
