Cheap band 28 phones with decent camera?

Hello OBers,

I'm after a cheap band 28 phone with a decent camera. Reception and network throughput is important (I bounce between the Telstra 4G resellers, eg Telechoice, Aldi) and 1080p video with good quality is required.

Other preferences but not essential:

  • Smallish, under or around 140g
  • NFC for Android Pay
  • Something that will get OS updates, particularly security

Prefer to spend under $200 - what's out there?

Thanks!

FIC

    Cheap
Something that will get OS updates

    Pick one.

    Smallish
    140g light
    Android Pay
    Band 28

    Pick three.

Let us know which ones you picked, and we'll tell you which options are there.

    • Yep you will be looking at a Pixel or an iPhone if you want regular security updates or updates in general. Although Samsung and Motorola are slowly improving their ability to provide regular updates. For those specs listed, you definitely will have to compromise on a few things, especially if you're looking for local stock.

OP you can use GSM Arena's phone finder filter to find a phone to match your specs, however there probably won't be a lot of options to choose from

Incorrect, there's at least Blackphone and Blackberry that do regular Android updates.

  • maybe try to get a Lumia 950 XL or another lumia, the Windows phone updates come out every few weeks and the system has no viruses

I hope they don't run Windows 10 because that gets viruses.

  • Sony XA1

Sony are pretty lax on updates unless they've recently changed.

hope this helps, its ordered by price (Descending).

  • Thanks - the phone chooser does help a little but it's was hoping for some 'local knowledge'. I get an S6 for $300 but was hoping for something cheaper. Updates don't have to be -that- frequent but I don't want something stuck with no updates, ever, either.

Camera doesn't have to be amazing but good and with 1080p.

Last year's phones also considered of course.

I used a Lumia for a while and it has been a great pleasure! They are really good phones for the price and they have "unusual" features and apps, that makes them different from IOS or Android…just a bit hard to get the apps u want

yes!! I love Lumia, devastating that Satya Nadella came in the peak of Windows phone market share and then fired everyone.

  • I think the market is too much runned by either Androind or IOS and ppl don't realize that Nokia makes arguabily the best phones in the market and Windows OS is not bad at all

    • People blame unavailability of Windows-run apps, more than the Windows OS itself. Phones can be great but they are of li'l use without enough apps.

    • i thought new nokia runs android ?

      • I am not really sure about it. I know Nokia/Windows have been good friends in the past few yrs! Lol and they dropped some really good products!

  • I think it all depends on what u NEED ur phone for. Personally i don't understand with pp; paying $1000+ for IPHone ir Samsung as i think it is an outrageous sum for what i need in a phone, which is basic call text whatsapp and few more. U can do the same thing on windows phones and they come out much cheaper
