Smart Oyster Ceiling Light Replacement

Hey Guys,

I'm after some advice. I recently moved to a new place and was trying to hook up all my xiaomi yeelights and lifxs. Alas, they have these collection of tiny LEDs instead of one socket that I can put my yeelights in, I think this is what it currently has.

My question revolves around the best way to make this a smart and RGB lighting solution? Is there smart alternative oyster lights or do I have to refit this whole ceiling light to allow yeelight compatible socket?

All suggestions are welcome and needless to say, the cheaper the better. Thanks in advance.

  • Smart lighting is generally limited to general lights, not downlights or domes.

    • damn, how difficult is it to change this type of lighting to the regular kind?

As you already have them, just replace the exisiting lights with the yealink ceiling light

    • thanks but damn, this is really expensive

      • $105 AUD…. Not much extra over say two globes that are normally needed for oyster lights.

How much did you lifxs globes set you back?

        • Yeelights are pretty cheap, can get 4/5 of them for the same price I guess, I got the Lifxs for $30 each I think (that is USD)

    • Was keen on trying one of these, but they don't have the Australian approvals etc :(
Not sure if the Yeelight globes would either.
Last thing i'd want is house to burn down and insurance to brush me off.

      • Don't hardwire things which don't have Australian approvals. I think you can get away with the bulbs, but hardwiring is another question.

      • think you'll find anything that plugs into the power point, needs Australian approvals, so no different.

        • any idea how hard for me to go back to the regular thing to replace this altogether?

        • @enzioFirenze: Same way as you installed it. unscrew the three wires, remove light. Put new light in, screw in wires :)

        • @JimmyF: right, unfortunately I didn't install it, do you have any idea what the regular light holder thingy is called? I know the socket is e27
