Help Me Find a 4K UHD Monitor (Under $700)

Hey guys

I’m looking around for a Monitor for my PS4 Pro and Laptop.

My requirements

  • IPS Display (I know there’s no 1ms IPS monitors but I hate TN panels)
  • Built in Speakers
  • 4K UHD
  • Slim bezel / borderless
  • No smaller than 27”
  • Australian stock (2yr warranty)

I know this is a lot of requirements to ask for, but help me out! I’ve tried and looked everywhere on the internet for a Monitor, but can’t find one!!

Thanks a lot

Very few high-end monitors come with built-in speakers, because the companies assume if you have money to buy one of those, you have money to buy a separate (and much better) audio solution. Also, at your price point, hard to find very slim bezels too. Here's a few:

    EDIT: FOUND IT
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lenovo-ThinkVision-X1-27-4K-UHD-I…
ThinkVision X1 Wide 27 inch Wide UHD IPS Monitor
    AU $539.00
    Description here: https://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/accessories-and-monitors/monit…
I'm a little worried because it's so cheap though, so do your usual due diligence. RRP $1,220 down to $539.00 is very much on, if not over, the border of "too good to be true".
But slim bezels, IPS, 4K UHD, and stereo speakers.

    Others:

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-28-ultra-hd-4k-led-monito…
Kogan 28" 4K LED Monitor (Ultra HD) - Has speakers, not quite slim bezels.

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/lg-27-ultra-hd-uhd-4k-ips-monit…
LG 27" Ultra HD UHD 4K IPS Monitor (27UD58-B) - No speakers (that I can see) and also not quite slim bezels.

    https://www.umart.com.au/LG-27UD69-W-27--Slim-Bezel-4K-UHD-I…
LG 27UD69-W 27" Slim Bezel 4K UHD IPS - SLIM bezels, but no speakers.

Personally, the Lenovo looks a little fugly and that particular eBay merchant has negative feedback about delivery times, which makes me a little leery of purchasing from them. Also - speakers and thin bezels don't mix well, so I wouldn't have speakers as a must. If I were buying, I'd go for the LG 27UD69-W, and spend maybe $50 on a pair of cheap Logitech Z-something speakers.

    • Yeah I agree I saw that Lenovo deal before and the monitor is a bit ugly, i see how hard it is to find the monitor. Maybe forget about the slim bezels.

The problem is with the speakers I’ll have to connect to 1) my PS4 and 2) my laptop and keep switching. I don’t know if there is a solution to that .

      • Ah, you're gonna be using it with your PS4 and a laptop? You can get the 28" Kogan monitor - 4K, LED, all that jazz. But I still wouldn't use monitor speakers - they're usually pretty terrible.

What you can do though, is connect a set of speakers to your monitor - that way, which ever of your PS4 or laptop that you're using on that monitor, the speakers are automatically also connected. Both the LG monitors have an headphone out jack, so if you hook up speakers via 3.5mm aux cable to the monitor, whatever you connect to the monitor via HDMI (which also carries audio), will also play audio through those speakers.

        Edit - Diagram:

        So instead of:

        Speakers <—-3.5mm aux—-> PS4 or Laptop <—-HDMI/DVI/etc—-> Monitor

        Have:

        PS4 or Laptop <—-HDMI—-> Monitor <—-3.5mm aux—-> Speakers

Note: You have to use HDMI to connect your laptop/PS4 to the monitor in this set-up, because afaik, only HDMI has audio pass-through.

Thanks for that diagram - so let me confirm, PS4 HDMI in Monitor, then 3.5mm aux in Monitor to make the sound?

Sorry about this! I have never had a speaker setup before.

@superbb: for PS4 you can plug your headphones into controller and get sound

@superbb: Yup - because HDMI carries audio, anything (headphones, speakers) plugged into the monitor via the 3.5mm aux (headphone) port will also play that audio.

@superbb: No worries, I see you found a good monitor below! But if you change your mind, consider something like this to pair with the monitor:

Easy to set up, will give you so much better sound.

The Lenovo X1 is an excellent deal. To me it is a nice design. Guaranteed you wont find anything else around this price at the same level of quality. It is a 99% SRGB, 10-bit IPS panel with slim bezels. It is a good $200 cheaper than an equivalent Dell.

  • ever considered second hand?

    IPS Display
    Built in Speakers
    4K UHD
    Slim bezel / borderless
    No smaller than 27”
    Australian stock (2yr warranty) maybe??

1 month old probs has receipt, can get the price down if you're a good negotiater (600?) and it's quite large!

    It's the LG 43UD79
