Budget/Efficient Shaving Options

I only shave once every 4-6 days and have only used razors. (disposal and free trial from dollarshaveclub)

What's the difference between using electrical razors and is this more efficient and cost effective?
Is it a good investment and if so, what should you look out for when buying them?
Or is the disposable route better?

"electrical razors" , you mean electric shaver ?

    it's a bit of hit & miss
won't shave as clean as razor
might take longer if you're after clean shave
else easy/fast for a quick shave every morning
no good for long beard / moustache

will need to replace the head after 2 yrs or so, some will stop working until you replace the head.
some let you continue using it until you're sick of the blunt head.
head might cost a bit for high end stuff

Try philips pt920, can be had for $80 on ebay 20% off when shavershop discount them on christmas/boxing to $99

Pick up a decent DE safety razor and a few different blades to try, you'll never look back!

Agree, if he's tight on cash the Mingshi adjustable from aliexpress is only about %10 and goes like a champ.

Plenty of other reviews out there.

      • thanks for the recommendation.
        just reading about it now.
that's pretty interesting, never knew about this option.

do you need to use a brush/cream with it?

        • I wouldn't say 'need' but others might have more information on that topic. I use a brush and soap but I don't see why you couldn't use normal shaving cream/gel/oil? Get a sample blade pack from an Aussie shave store like the Stray Whisker or whoever is closer. There is a BIG difference between blades so some experimenting might be in order. Luckily they are fairly cheap. :)

DE safety all the way. :)

  • Don't use an electric razor full time if you have a romantic partner. It leaves a very short, scratchy beard.

  • 4-6 days?!?

I'd just get a decentish disposable (I still use Gilette Sensor), and be sure to rinse it thoroughly and strop in on your forearm after use, you'll get months out of a cartridge (I get roughly two weeks out of mine and I shave pretty much daily).

I'd also recommend the double edged safety razor… I've got two of these I'll start using when I move into my new place.

    • Oh, and don't use electric shavers, they're rubbish.

  • I hate shaving so I only shave once a week on Sunday nights. I just use a Schick 5 blade razor and one blade lasts a long time due to me not shaving very often.

    Grow a beard.

I think you already have your answer. "I only shave when I get free razors"

  • I find the Bic sensitive yellow handle things do a decent job after a shower. Can usually pick up a 20pk for $4 when Woolworths has them on special.

As of late I've been keeping a beard, since my hair grows as fast as an Ewok's overnight. I just use beard trimmer for neckline, and once or twice a week tidy up the neckline with one of the disposables.

The one and 2 blade disposables work fine. The 11ty blade ones I find clog if you've got a few days growth and can cause ingrown hairs.

DE safety's do work well, you just have to be careful and not rush it to avoid looking like you've been in a SAW trap.
