Using Phone Sim for 3G Router?

Hi, i actually posted this question in a deal
but i probably won't get any answers so i thought
i'd try my luck here.

"Hey guys just a random question.
Is it possible to use a regular phone sim's data
in a 3g modem/3g router?

eg. I have a phone plan where i have a few gigs of
data to use and i put the sim in something like the
vodafone pocket wifi router.

I think i read something about having separate apn's
or something? Is it possible to change the apn on the
sim so that 3g router will use my mobile data?

Just wondering because i have a plan with a bunch of
data that i don't use and i'd love to use for my wireless devices."

thanks!

  • I thought you just set the APN of the router to the same one that you use on the phone? I have a SIM from Exetel (reselling Optus) which I stick to my phone and 3G USB modem all the time, using the same APN.

  • oh awesome. thanks!
well actually the other question i had was, is it possible to have two sims running from the same plan?
so i don't have to keep switching between devices. just put one in the phone one in the router.
my logic tells me no…because there'd be a big security issue with that but still hopeful!
