Cheapest E-tag?

Hi Guys

I just got hit for $27.50 on my E-tag account (vic) which is the minimum fee if you don't use it.

I've had a look around and as far as I can tell the "breeze" account seems to be the cheapest b/c you don't pay a set up fee or minimum usage fee.

Just wondering what other people thoughts are? Is this the best one to use for occasional use in vic and sometimes a road trip to syd?

  • Citilink or eastlink? I thought they were different system.

I get to go on Citilink for free on my bike, but not eastlink. However Ive never had the need to use eastlink.

  • my citylink does not have a minimum… they drop the fee after you've had it a few years (or they used to at least…)

anyway… it doesn't matter whether you get citylink or breeze… they charge the same rate for usage… but you are right that there is no minimum for breeze…

  • wow, ours has a $50 refundable deposit for the etag, and then it auto adds credit to the etag when the balance gets below $5.

If you want me to find the model/brand/company let me know.

  • In NSW, the RTA (Vic Roads equivalent) issues tags with no minimum spends, and is valid at all tolls across the country. Wonder if VicRoads has something like that, or if you can get the NSW one.

  • I specifically signed up fro Breeze (Eastlink) over Citylink because it doesn't have a minimum spend and the charges are the same for usage. I think the citylink charge is only for the first 3 years. Also Eastlink tolls are discounted 20% on the weekend (not sure if this is only for those with a breeze account or for ciytlink account holders as well).

  • +1

Govia in QLD was the best beforehand, no monthly fee and if you added another car they sent you an new tag for that car without charging you. Maybe different now, but was great before. And I am in NSW and the cars are also registered in NSW and Govia issued the tags and sent them to NSW knowing all that . Its been great for the wife's and spare car which dont get the same long distance use.

  • Yeah I have signed up for the Breeze account due to no monthly fees or minimum. Also I have heard there is a surcharge on Interstate tolls for Citylink E-tag but no surcharge for breeze account.

  • Would be cool to see a comparison of all the QLD/VIC/NSW options and whether it's possible to order them from interstate. Anyone checked out www.flowtoll.com.au? They were giving away tags with 10 or so free trips through brisbane's Clem7 tunnel a while ago. The website says they can be used on any tollway in Australia.
