Ergoflex - Memory Foam Mattresses. Any Experience?

Hi there, does anyone use an ergoflex mattress?

They seem like a tempur knock-off, but a good version.

They're available online from www.ergoflex.com.au

P.S. I'm looking at the queen size, and they're quoting $899 plus shipping ($54.95).

Cheers

My only advice is that you really need to lie on a mattress before buying….

  • My brother in law has an Ergoflex mattress. He swears by it. Helped his back problems too. He used to have Tempur but couldn't justify the price second time around. $899 seems like a good price. Cheers

  • As an ErgoFlex representative, we always recommend that people go out and lay on a Tempur mattress. If you like Tempur, you will get the same quality at a better price buying an ErgoFlex memory foam mattress.

  • Thanks h4lcyon… appreciate it.

PT65 - Not to be too harsh, but isn't it strange that you've only joined ozbargain 8 hours ago, and made your 'positive comment', about it… probably because you work FOR ergoflex…

And 'woodent', I appreciate the fact that you say you're a representative, but if you're the same guy who's 'brother-in-law' has one, then it's a sad day for your marketing team.

I'm after a REAL-LIFE EXPERIENCE with someone who's been around on this forum a little longer than a few hours…

Something 'sus' going on with those two reviews… anyone have a TRUE review?

  • Hi Movieman,

I am also new to this site but dont want to misinform you. (I have had a google alert out on this as initally I wasnt happy with product). Pillow we bought was shit, very flat and offered no support although matress was ok.

My wife decided she wanted one after staying at my mums house in the UK, she has a Tempur which cost her a bloody fortune. Being a cheap skate I eventually found the ergoflex mattress (about a third of the price), I think they are pretty new out here. Uk site seems to have been established a while ago.
When I complained about pillow (although mattress was better than in the uk) they sent a replacement and explained how memory foam works. Did a bit of googling and seems technology is pretty straight forward, they told me pillow was flat as had been in storage before shipping (felt like an arse when new one arrived and old one wasnt flat any more).

Speak to the bloke who runs it, he seems pretty straight forward.

Looking at other sites reviews seem quite good, stick a google alert out for more info.

  • Movieman,

Just looked again at site, seems these blokes sell in America and europe as well, have to look at local forums for Ergoflex.

From what I saw seems ok.

  • We have a genuine tempur 15cm (ie. the bloody hard one) and also a 800 buck eBay special. Had 'em both for a couple of years now. I find the 15cm Tempur is a little bit too hard for me, but the other half loves it so meh.

I really do prefer the eBay special we got because it is softer. The seller is no longer around, but it did cost around 800 for a QS. So the price of these ones you are looking at is about the best you are going to get for a half decent cheap one. Some of the really cheap ones are way too soft. Also note that they are all temperature sensitive, so in summer it will be softer, and in winter it will be harder.

So unless you really want a hard Tempur one, you should be good to go with one of these I reckon. I certainly would give one a go if we ever need another one. Far better value for money than Tempur, especially if you are looking at getting the softer (thicker and even more expensive) Tempurs anyway.

    Hi guys…

    Appreciate your thoughts…

Just to let you know I've taken the plunge and purchased one, so we'll see how it goes… I had a chat to the guy that runs the show (Dave/David), and he was really helpful and knowledgable… so fingers crossed.

Stumo, which 'ebay special' were you referring to? The ergoflex branded one?

    Cheers

    • Let us know how you go with the new mattress. I really need a new mattress and have been considering tempur but if these are just as good then that would be great.

      • It's still in transit… but once I've tried it for a few good nights, i'll let you guys know.

Just it may feel 'awkward' the first few nights, so I'm not sure at the moment… will post here.

        Cheers

    • My eBay special was a no-name one, it came vacuum packed in a relatively small brown cardboard box. Once opened, it took about half a day for it to re-animate into a QS mattress! And took about a week for the strong chemical smell to fully go. You don't get that carry-on with a tempur, or probably any brand trying to promote itself like ergoflex, I guess we will find out.

Having said that, I would buy another one in an instant if I only knew what manufacturer it was! Tempur is just way too expensive by comparison.

Post back here for us once you've given you ergoflex a test drive.

  • I'd really like to know if they retain heat as I've heard.

    • Yes, if I get back into bed within a couple of hours of getting out, it is still warm. But i'm curious to know why is that relevant to you?

If you are worried about staying warm, maybe memory foam isn't for you. Because you can't use an electric blanket or hottie our anyheat source or you will cause permanent damage.

      • No it's because some people find it retains heat too much and u wake up hot and sweaty, even in winter. It's a problem sometimes for couples. Men generally get hot easily and women stay cooler so don't mind the extra warmth.

Apparently memory foam and latex both retain heat. I would like to know if it's significant.

        • Ok then yeah, the heat retention is significant. I'd say far more so with memory foam than latex, since with memory foam it moulds to your body more. I quite like it, and you would probably get used to it in most cases, ie having less blankets/sheets on top etc.

  • Hey movieman,

How's the Ergoflex mattress turning out?

  • Hi Everyone, sorry about the late review, just been really busy and also wanted to ensure that it 'stays good'.

I LOVE the mattress… It's really comfortable, supportive, and well worth the purchase.

I have a friend who used a tempur mattress, and then lay on mine, and said it has the same effect (he has a sore back, and when he lies on these, it instantly feels so good).

    Highly recommended!!!

  • Hi, I have just purchased a euroflex king size mattress after reading all the great reviews. Its been 4 nights now and it is still as hard as sleeping on a table. I'm just hoping I get use to it or it softens up. I tried the 20cm tempur mattress as suggested and it seemed a lot more comfortable than this one. I just wish you were able to try before you buy. I'm not sure I would have bought it after I realised how HARD it is. Did anyone else find this problem?

    • Hi S.Fullicks,

I'm really happy with my ergoflex, and dont find it too hard at all. What sort of cover are you using? It could be that it's TOO THICK, and your body heat isn't transferring to the mattress.

I use an EXTREMELY THIN one, and it's really good like this…. i'm lying on it now, and if i am to 'pinch' the edge of it, its quite easy for me to do so… not 'hard' at all. Maybe your bedroom is really cold also??

      Let us know!!!

      • Hi movieman,

I'm thinking of getting an Ergoflex mattress, do you still like it?
Has the mattress indented over time?
Did the mattress off gas (chemical smell)?
And now that you have had it for a year did you notice any difference in hardness from summer to winter?

        Thanks

        • I'm in the same boat…would like to hear your review after a year using it.
Did you buy from www.ergoflex.com.au and how much you paid for it?
The price you quoted in OP so cheap compare to current price.

          AU Standard Queen-Size
          RRP $2,399
          Our Price $1,599

        • Hi Maxpower5000,

Yep, it's still a great mattress.

But currently I'm using an original tempur mattress, and the ergoflex is just at a holiday house.

Was great for the many months that I did use it; If I didn't receive the Tempur as a gift, I'd still be using the Ergoflex (much better value for money).

          Cheers

  • Hi thanks for your comment. I had only a light sheet over the mattress. Even my husband who likes hard mattresses said this one was firm. What we have done is put a mattress protector on it which has made it a little softer and I am sleeping a lot better now. Maybe in time I'll take the protector off and see how we go then. Our room is not cold at all actually it is quiet warm we get the afternoon sun. Also everyone I have had lay on it comments how hard it is. So maybe I just got a really hard mattress I don't know but all reviews I read are really possitive so I am going to persist.

  • Hey there,

Anybody can comment on the ergoflex memory foam mattresses? I know the thread is a year old already, but thought that is a good amount of time using the mattress to know whether it is comfortable. I need a medium-firm mattress and ergoflex is within my budget with the current sale.

    Thanks!

    • Yeap I've bought one during their sales and its been great! only problem I would say is that they might overheat after a while (other reviewers have found the same thing) - But I remember my first night felt a bit weird…but my second night I woke up cocooned by the comfort of my ergoflex :) One of my friends also bought one and it has since cured her back pain which she was getting from her crappy old bed. She also comments that it does heat up though throughout the night!

Its very good value for money and If you are willing to wait for a sale (considering EOFY is coming up), you would save a lot considering how much a tempur costs! Apparently theyre as good as a tempur, but I cannot comment based on my own personal experience

The only problem is that you cant try before you buy! I think try a tempur bed first to see if you like the feel of that sort of mattress.

  • Seriously cannot complain. I bought a Queen size memory foam mattress from Ergoflex during one of their sales (and constantly trying to win another one for the guest room on their Facebook Page)… I've been training for over 10 years, and memory foam has certainly reduced my recovery times. There's no way I would have paid the exorbitant prices in stores, so Ergoflex came highly recommended (especially on other review sites and Whirlpool)…

  • I can say that this mattress ergoflex is not like the tempur cloud it is MUCH firmer. The image of the indented hand print is very misleading and as for the side view of the lady lying on the bed with the mattress contouring her body is no way what you will get. I weigh about 70kg at 5 foot 4 and hardly get any indentation. If a rep or whoever is going to come on here now and tell me its the slats of the bed or some rubbish like that then they better not bother. It does get hot in summer even with cooler sheets etc recommended by reps. The reps are prompt with returning calls but I have had this for 6 months or so ( Queen size ) and I can tell you that it does not compare to the tempur in the stores. I strongly suggest lying on one at a friends or wait for one of those home expo shows and see if they ever have a stall set up for you to try it before thinking it is like the tempurs.
In relation to the indented hand print they are probably pushing just on a piece of the foam and not the bed,
In relation to the curves produced on the mattress by the women on her side…VERY MISLEADING.. I would like to hear from anyone who gets anything like this photo even if they are pregnant with triplets how they get that kind of conformation to their body shape on this mattress. I'd like to be proven wrong and rectify my mattress but I doubt it.

    • Hey lukeloop,
I currently have two Ergoflex mattresses, a queen and a king (with another queen and a king single on the way). What I have found, is that these mattresses like bases with flexing slats rather than solid slats. This actually works out cheaper as the more expensive the base, the more solid the slats turn out to be (hence cheaper bases actually work better). The difference between the types of bases is dramatic to say the least!

We have fairly solid slats on the expensive base at home in Melbourne(I FIFO), and the mattress is reasonable firm, but in Canberra on the king size bed, the mattress has more give and flex (still wonderful to sleep on). The only base I would not recommend for the Ergoflex is a solid flat base with no slats.

As for the image, if you lay on the edge of the mattress, it does actually look like that.

  • Curious to know why this bed in king size 3month old (relatively new) sells for $200-400 on gumtree these days. Price brand new is $1200.

  • I'm also looking for a memory foam mattress and read this thread with interest.

Rather suss that most of the positive comments are from members who joined on the day of the comment and most only made 1 post and never came back. I'm looking at PT65, jock English, johnnymarr and tonestar. Including woodent the self declared rep.

This sort of thing does not give me a lot of confidence in the product!

This is an online only product and lives by its reputation and star rating. I suspect an army of paid "commentators" and "reviewers" extolling the product's virtues every time the name is mentioned.

Whilst the price is good, I think I'll have to give it a miss, even though I love a bargain. Any business that feels it necessary to do this amount of manipulation is not one I want to deal with.

    • Hi jebdra,

Yes, you could be on to something.

It could be so; but then again, some of us are happy consumers. Your call.

P.S. I'm the OP, and surprised that this topic came up again; but I still rate it very high value-for-money.

      Cheers

  • Hi movieman

Thanks for the response. I'm still on the fence about this, so it's really good to hear that a regular ozbargainer is happy with it.

I've subsequently read the whole whirlpool thread on ergoflex as well and most of the posters on there are not one post wonders and are most are happy with their purchase.

It seems to be a good product at a good price. It's just a shame the sellers seem to think it's a good idea to try to manipulate reviews and comments.

I think I'm going to try it anyway, even though I don't like the astroturfing.

Thanks again for your response. Still happy after 5 years is a good recommendation :-)

    • Hi jebdra,

Happy to help; I've received loads of help from fellow ozbargainers, so glad to be able to help you.

Good luck which ever way you decide, but if you do go the ergoflex way, just be sure to open the roll in a well-ventilated room, and leave the window open for a few days for the chemical smells to disperse. Then you're fine!

      Cheers

  • Might be a long shot to revive the thread.

Does anyone have experienced with ergoflex mattress lately?

I read the product review.com and it seems all glowing positive review from member who just joined on the day of review.

It seems a good value mattress compare to tempur.

  • +1

"Rather suss that most of the positive comments are from members who joined on the day of the comment and most only made 1 post and never came back. I'm looking at PT65, jock English, johnnymarr and tonestar. Including woodent the self declared rep." - Great point. Not so great by ErgoFlex… it has to be their representatives. Can't believe they would do that. Can't trust all their reviews on their site.

I have an ErgoFlex. Queen-size. Would have bought it new from their site just over 2 years ago, and have slept on it everyday (except when I'm on holidays) since. I weight about 70kg. My partner weights just over 50kg.
I like medium beds, or medium-soft beds.
Before I bought it, I have a lot of reservations about getting a bed I had not tried. Then again, I did try lots of different types of beds around the shops, and they all were at least $2,000+. Also, I thought to myself, I really did not know how they bed that I tried at the shop would react when I slept on it 8 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year for a few years. It's very different from trying a bed for 1 minute at the shop.
So given the reviews, I decided to buy it. For $1,000, even if it was not up to scratch, at least I wasn't spending $2,000 - $3,000.
How does it feel? It's firm. A lot firmer than the tempur mattresses I tried. It's kinda similar (in that it's foam and not springs or pocket springs), but different (because it's a lot firmer). Then again, I only lay on the tempur for a minute, but the tempur was SOFT and nice when I lay on it (but then again, it costs $3,000+). I agree with lukeloop on this.
Do I regret the purchase I made? No way. I would do the same thing in my situation 2 years ago, for $1,000. Mind you, when I move back interstate, I will definitely get a new softer mattress, and not keep this one to sleep on every single day for the next few years. But I will definitely get it transported back for my guest room or another room like that.
Would I buy another one? Very unlikely.
Has it sunk over the last couple of years? Not really. It's still quite firm. I would have thought it may have, which wouldn't have been a bad thing for me, but it hasn't.
Would I want to sleep on this as my primary mattress for more than 3 years? For me, definitely not. I would spend that extra money and get a much softer mattress (esp. being so light and liking softer mattresses). The firmness makes my back sore at times, so I just do not want to lie in bed all morning and enjoy it.

But yeah, would like to reiterate how disappointing it is for the sellers of the ErgoFlex to manipulate reviews and comments. Just a shame.

  • Also in the market for a new mattress.

There seems to be something suss about the ergoflex reviews online, i agree. I was offered a coupon code apparently just for me from ergoflex customer service but then i found the same code on the site.

I recently bought an aldi qs mattress and it is fine. Would have bought a single also but it was all soldout. Wanting to try latex mattress but it seems too expensive for a spare bed. I might just go for the average spring coil mattress down the road.

  • I bought mine back on February 1 Queen size and 1 Single.I found it pretty firm and takes me nearly 3 weeks to adjust however my wife likes it from day1.Eventhough they say it medium firm - its more to firm side than medium. The single bed is for my son and he loves it from day1.

The customer service pretty prompt through Facebook or phone.I''m on the same boat with the fabricated review.

I think its value for money when they offering 50% discount on it and free shipping.Shipping is great and prompt only take 2 days from the time we ordered online.

Overall, Im pretty happy with the purchase. However, i would choose Tempur bed if you dont have any budget concern.

  • Hi All,

Does anyone have an experience of returning the mattress within 30 days trial period? any issues in receiving the refund if we have to return?
