Benefits of using Wi-Fi Calling?

So WiFi Calling has been around for sometime; has anyone got any special hacks for using it?

I’m thinking along the lines of carrying a dongle with a different company to make hotspot where there isn’t reception in your house or similar?

I know that receiving a wifi connection compared to a 4g/3G seems to use much less power/battery.

Anyone had luck with using it overseas? Like free/cheap roaming with a VPN?

Thoughts?

    Do you mean VoIP?

I think there's some thing where cellular protocol is used over Wi-Fi so carriers can rape you for calls even when they have no coverage. It appears transparent to the user so same cell number etc

On WP someone claimed it successfully worked in NZ, but the VPN must be on the router level.

Optus only offers it to Postpaid customers and it's only available for a small number of devices, but would be interesting to know, if other people used it overseas

  • I’m with Post Paid Optus. Its not voip; but seemless transition between them.

The people calling sees your usual number etc calling them. And I presumably it’s billed to your account. ( I have unlimited so I don’t check the billing).

I get reception in my house…

always check the billing… you seem a little too trusting that people will always do their job correctly.

      • Capped plan. Same price each month :)
