    Yeah i posted that: ouffer.com/melbourne
I think the person who reported that is pretty selfish. Just because it doesn't directly benefit you, doesn't mean its not a bargain or freebie. Perhaps you were expecting someone to kiss your ass and hand you a 5g sample of toothpaste too?
Plus if I remember correctly the donate to this animal charity was fairly well received, don't tell me you chose he free pen or whatever over the free donation?

    • it's a great cause - it just directly violates the rules of posting as set out in the guidelines.
nothing personal against you or the charity…

    • I didnt report it but if you think its the same as something else that was allowed on her perhaps you should talk to the mods becuase sometimes things go through and other times dont. I think the freebie pen you mention could make the difference however.

    ozbargain.com.au/node/14059
    www.ozbargain.com.au/node/15622
for example does not directly benefit the user

    • i'm with you on that one - dont see how that is a bargain…
got 28 votes and even got moderated…

    • Looking at the mod discussion we had at the time.

Crazystu never answered many queries that we asked to him and it's my understanding that those boxes never got donated to charities. Crazystu has since been banned from the site.

I queried why this post was up, because it fell against the rules, and a deal that proceeded it, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/14059 was posted. It gained enough traction so we left it be but those cases are the exception. Straight charitable donations are more suited to the forums, while if there is a grey area which the crazy stu and IE 8 food donation was, it's a wait and see response.

      • thanks for the insight - appreciate all the work you guys put in to keeping this site ticking along

  • I think its great. A little surprised it was taken off cos I thought there had been another similar one with a different group buy site- to do with SIDs. But forums works too so spreading the word.
BTW though it isn't donate $5 for nothing. You are paying $5 to donate $5. Ouffer are just not charging any admin fees so 100% of your donation goes to Smith Family. It doesn't say they'll donate $5 on your behalf, it says you can donate $5

    • Whoops my bad, I actually got that email from my mob this morning and the images weren't loading so I was gonna visit that site tonight. From the email, I thought it was a free donation so once again my apologies.

    • Ooooh … I realize Kego realizes the mistake.

But just checking with roadtrip24 …

so we give $5 to Ouffer. Ouffer gives that $5 to the Smith Family.

      Ouffer would then:
      - keep the tax deduction for themselves
      - use the sum raised to create goodwill for themselves? (eg we've donated $1000 to charities this year … or something)

  • Charities aren't bargains, otherwise people would just post every charity to here. I'm a fan of the Lort Smith Animal hospital but others like World Vision, can you compare one charity to another like products? I don't think so, thus why it falls in with freeware and free websites.

    • On but Neil you are a mod, and mods are here to make everyones life difficult, you should know that. But if they dont like your charity then they'll be the first to say so….

      • what shall we do about the morale around here …

  • Is there a reason why you would donate through Ouffer? Can't we just donate straight to the Smith Family? The initial "bargain" wasn't really a bargain at all, charity or not. Ouffer wasn't really offering anything…

I know I have freebie credit and referal credits ($6 wow) from the Melbourne movie ticket deal a while back. I might donate that now and get me some good karma.

There would be loads of people here on OzBargain who have that credit just sitting there which probably won't ever be used.

      • Done x 2. :)

  • mmmm i think ouffer ran out of offers so they're just filling space?

This is Ozbargain, not Ozdonate. The mods did the right thing by removing the listing.

    • What Neil said … it comes under the unfortunate area of post floods. If we allow that then the site will become so innundated with posts that bargains will be buried
      - freeware is not allowed, for that reason
      - referral posts had to be disbanded due to flooding
      - there are many, many different charities that people give to (and also the CrazyStu issue highlighted that people could come on here to try and generate sales through good will if we leave the charity door open … whether the promised action is then undertaken or not)
