Gaming monitor? - 144hz minimum, 24-27", 1080/1440 resolution.

So with the 11% off deal on last night I was eyeing off the BenQ Zowie XL2735 bringing it to about $670 delivered. I am currently on a standard 1080 resolution 27" 60hz monitor from kogan. It does the job, but for gaming I can notice the input lag, screen tearing and such. I was hoping to slide under the $500 mark but have some wiggle space. I didn't get that monitor last night as the missus talked me out of it. Wake up this morning wishing I just bought it.

Are there any monitors you can guys can recommend purely for gaming purposes that include: 24-27", 144hz+(240hz probably overkill for my gpu), 1440 resolution max (my gtx 1070 probably won't max frames on a 2k+ monitor), hoping around the $500 mark but willing to go a bit higher if it is worth it.

Thanks in advance.

You need G-sync.. This is probably the "minimum" spec you are after: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AOC-G2460PG-G-SYNC-144HZ-24-1ms-F…

    • See I've spoken to friends who say g-sync is overrated. From what I have also read, monitors like the BenQ zowie's or AOC Agon's have their only technology in them, (dyac/adaptive-sync) which help with screen-tearing/input lag and among other things.

G-sync is certainly not overrated and I'm not sure why they're saying that. Unless your GPU will consistently output 144fps+ (which will not be the case) you will regret not getting G-sync.

        G-sync, 144hz, IPS, 1440p, 27" is your ideal spec.

        • IPS I don't really care for. From what I gather it has better viewing angles but more input lag. TN panels generally cheaper and lower input lag. Some games I can get a constant 140+ fps as I run low settings typical for better performance.

Are these friends who don't have a g-sync monitor…? Tech like g-sync and AMD's freesync do wonders for graphics and things like screen-tearing.

Seconded, got a XB270HU 1440p/144hz with gsync. I keep it disabled, don't like my games topping out at 144fps when they can run higher, and when under I've not noticed any tearing. I'd agree that for what it offers compared to the premium, it's overrated.

Asus PG279Q, the stuff dreams are made of. After getting this bad boy I can't imagine going back to TN panels, 1080p or non G-Sync. My old BenQ 144hz/1080p was a nice entry-level gaming monitor, but speaking from experience it's really worth dropping the extra cash to get something nicer.

    • Yeah that's a little too expensive.

      • Got an ex-demo for $699 delivered, similar price to what you're looking at and superior in virtually all aspects. If you can hold out for a deal or save up a little longer it's definitely the way to go. If not good luck with the BenQ, make sure you get an ICC profile calibrated correctly, the colours still won't be comparable to an IPS but it's an improvement from out the box.

        • Yeah ill keep an eye out but im virtually looking for gaming performance over everything else. I dont care so much fir pretty colours just blur free, tear free, clear screen with high fps.

  • Looking for the same kind of monitor.

Eyeing on ag271qg atm, waiting for another deal (better than yesterday's) to bring it down to around $500.

    • how is this compared to the equivalent acer predator model

  • I bought a Dell S2716DG from Amazon for $724 AUD, it is 1440p, G-Sync, TN, 144Hz and comes in either 24" (which is a bit cheaper) or 27". It hasn't arrived yet but can report back when it arrives. I'm coming from a Samsung S24C750 which is standard 1080p, 60Hz and IPS.

    • Keep me posted, was looking at a dell gaming monitor.

Edit: have found Acer Predator XB271HU Currently $712 AUD delivered on amazon. looks like a decent buy. They looks like same specs except acer has an IPS panel (4ms response time) vs TN panel (1ms response time) in dell.

      • I have that monitor for over a year and I love it. I have a 1070 and it does a good enough job on it. The IPS is worth it as the 3ms response time is negligible.

      • Could you link the XB271HU you found as I'd happily change my order for that monitor.

        • Acer Predator XB271HU Abmiprz 27-inch WQHD (2560x1440) NVIDIA G-SYNC Monitor (Display Port & HDMI Port, 144Hz) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N11QIYW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_QGXm…

        • @Rochie: I thought that was the one you meant. The problem is that the IPS version is $699.99 USD. Correct me if I'm wrong or missing something here.

        • @ZachBlasphemy: oh it is my bad. I don't know what I did there. I was going to buy it too but ill wait for now.

        • @Rochie: It's unfortunate but at least you didn't buy it expecting an IPS display and be disappointed when it shows up. I too would of loved to buy it at that price.

        • @ZachBlasphemy:

Abmiprz is TN, Bmiprz is IPS yes. Sometimes they are referred to as XB271HUA (TN) and XB271HU (IPS).

The Abmirpz is also ~$700 delivered from newegg.com.au atm. https://www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824011082&cm_re=xb271hu--24-011-082--Product

I'm a bit put off buying a 144hz IPS screen from overseas considering all I've been reading about the lottery of dead pixels on the current generation of panels. Reading about people returning them 3+ times just to get no dead pixels is daunting when you consider the extra cost of shipping.

        • @lithius: Thanks for the info. Small bit of confusion from the model numbers here.

I wish I saw that Newegg deal sooner but I'll stop myself worrying about $30 for once.

I didn't realize the dead pixel problem was that bad. I've also had to return displays with dead pixels but I don't know who would buy a display, find and dead pixel and not return it but yes the shipping cost makes that harder. I feel the quality control needs to be better unless we're just fussy and most people don't care.

        • @ZachBlasphemy:

I think it was mainly a certain vintage of the 144hz IPS g-sync panels (which most manufacturers were using) hopefully it's not as much of an issue at the moment. I'm tempted by the Abmiprz from Newegg as I think it and the Dell s2716DG use the same panels. I'd be coming from a Dell u2410 IPS 24" 1200p so hopefully even being TN it'd still be a worthy upgrade. I'm just scared of getting a dud like the poor guy in the comments here

          http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3320650/ips-1440p-144hz…

        • @lithius: I hope they are both quality monitors then. I'll be doing a side by side comparison with mine when it arrives.

  • I'm using this site for US deals, since some of those sites have international shipping like Amazon, BHP.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/search?q=monitor&sort…

    • +1

Yeah some deals would be great if international shipping didn't cost $100-$150.

  • Turns out the Zowie XL2735 is listed on the eBay store and p5ozzie works so its $703 delivered. I think I am going to go for the zowie as the dyac technology looks good and I'm not sold on 'needing' g-sync. Not to mention their xl series come with 4 year warranty and it will be australian warranty instead of international warranty on amazon.

  • Does anyone have insight on the differences between the Acer xb241yu/Dell s2417dg/Aoc ag241qg. The Acer and Aoc with tomorrows sale on ebay will be about $611 from austin computers, whereas dell currently have the s2417dg for $670 on their website. Aren't these 3 models essentially the same monitor? The only difference I know is dell's advanced replacement policy ensure 0 dead pixels etc. There is also an option to extend the warranty from 3 years (same length for all 3 monitors) to 5 years for about $30 extra. Is this worth it and reason enough to go with the dell? Any advice or information would be appreciated.
