Holy crap I didn't thing we started getting Victoria type dodgeyness yet. Are you AGL… this sounds like AGL… never use AGL for NSW

I guess you got sucked in by the % discount.

I still don't understand control load.

But generally all the NSW energy companies are pretty similar. Not much point unless you have particular circumstances.

Im with Origin with 22% off usage, but the price per unit and supply is around 30c, and supply 91c GST inc.

I dont think you can get 22% off anymore I think its 18-19%… what ever it is its way better than yours

Its a 1 year contract you have to renew every year… but no exit fee so leave when you want

What's wrong with AGL? I am with them as I worked out that they were the cheapest. (I'm in NSW).
Edit: I think everyone's situation is different. The "best option" will depend on whether you are on a one-rate or TOU meter, and whether or not you have controlled loads.

      • Overall they're generally higher, some circumstances may make them lower. But mostly higher.

The fact that they've made some really bad financial decisions in the past, is probably why they're so high compared to others

I've spread sheeted the retailers a while back and update when my 1 year is up.

You generally want one-rate, the peak non peak things is extremely dodgy. I still can't believe they got away with it.

If you're a single person you should focus on cash back, as your usage would be low

        Edit:
Someone below has posted AGL rates, so op can't be on that. I've never seen a 40c rate before so no idea who they're with

        • It really depends. I actually prefer TOU as opposed to one-rate as I am not at home during office hours, therefore my "peak" usage is extremely minimal. TOU also allows for cheap electricity at night, which is extremely useful if you use the heater / air-conditioning.

        • @bsmksg: Yep good for nightowls… but not for many, i find it shocking that the shoulder rate is also higher than the standard one rate.

  • it’s with a click energy and i believe the control load 2 is the charge for our hotwater usage.

  • AGL NSW

    Peak: 29c
    Load 1: 14c
    Supply charge: 84c
19% pay on time discount (This is calculated on ex-GST total)

There also seems to be a charge of just under 1% maybe because I pay by visa.

EDIT: Be aware and beware that electricity pricing is complex and it may not be possible to find the plan that is cheapest for you within a mortal timeframe; don’t let it drive you crazy; just accept it, make a choice, and move on.

There is no way to answer this question without knowing what energy usage you have and what times of day you make use of it.

    You could try this site:
    https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/

  • No time of day charging as far as I know. The quoted info above are the only tariffs listed on my bill.

    • Understood, but if you work evening shift and all your power use is in the morning then a different tariff will be best than if you work days and use all your power at nights, for example.

  • Have you tried this spreadsheet from adam? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/322277
