The Logitech F310 is a cheap, customisable Playstation-style controller

It also costs the same as an Xbox 360 wired controller, but the Xbox controller has a terrible dpad. It is the better choice for racing and shooter games though.

    • Cheers I was thinking more along the lines of the simple NES design without the joystick. The kids are under 6yo so games like mario bros.

  • Buy a copy of the actual console controller but dont get the cheapest option because in my experience they can be utter crap.

    • Can they convert to original to pc? Really don't have much to spend on this and kids aren't fussy. I guess it needs to work and map properly though.

There are usb nes , snes and sega controllers - makes playing the game seem more authentic .

  • 8bitdo? Can be use for PC, android, Raspberry Pi, and some consoles.

If you are lucky you can find FC30 Pro for $40 on ebay.

  • Xbox One S (Bluetooth) controller.
Good for adults, great for kids.
Works natively with Windows games, and all emulators.

    Although, it's a bit pricey.
A wired Xbox 360 controller is a lower cost alternative.

  • Sorry guys I must be the cheapest guy on here lol. I can't afford $20+ on a controller otherwise I would buy a retro console with controllers included.
I was more thinking $20 for both controllers, cheap eBay china corded jobs. Little kids just need to run and jump on the platformer. Just needs to be
accepted by the emulator and actually work without frustrating them too much :)

You could try trawling some of the generics on Gearbest and Aliexpress, though in my experience with generic stuff they either lack durability or are really terrible to use

Kids might not mind the terribleness though.

  • for SNES the only control is the Japanese Buffalo pad, all the others are shit but then again the major problems with the generic chinese crap pads are that its difficult to do complex moves so unless your 6 year olds are throwing ultra combos in killer instinct i think they wont give a crap
