I Created a Dark Theme for Oz Bargain

Was bored at work and ended up creating a night mode / dark theme for Oz Bargain.

Curious to know what you guys think. Obviously, this is not complete or as polished as it should be, but not that bad for a 30-45 minute effort. Happy to share the CSS and instructions if anyone is interested (clicking on a link will reset the theme to default).

Update 1:

As promised: https://userstyles.org/styles/153014/darkside-theme-for-ozba…

This is still a work in progress and may be too flakey for primetime. I will be publishing this code on Github soon so that more people can contribute or build upon this.

Known Issues:
1. Voting buttons do not display properly
2. Some tables in the forums section do not display properly

I really like it. Feels more relaxed on my eyes then the bright white background. Please share :)

    This does it for me.

    • That's an awesome extension. Will give it a try :) Really needed one for Reddit as well.

You don't use RES for Reddit?

Not really, Tried it a few times, never had a compelling reason to stick to it

    • Thanks aboabo

  • Still working in the dark after all these years, I should really invest in a non-blue-light backlit keyboard. I've been using my screen to illuminate my keyboard for way too long, which has prohibited me from using dark themes.

    • OP, I like your new extension. Great work for 45mins! 😊

      Pumpkin:
I'm in the same category. It's a wonder that the hinges of my laptop still work…moving it forward to light up the keyboard.

Is there a version for phones?
(I know about screen dimming and filter apps)

      • Thank you :)

  • Hey, are you referring to the keyboard? My android has an option for keyboard colour themes so the most straightforward is to use the dark theme (white on black) with the preferred filter app(s).

For me it's mostly a problem when programming at night. If I'm using my mobile I'm probably breaking my no light at night rule.

I probably should install use Firefox on Android with a dark background/colour inversion extension since I find that I set the filters not strong enough (keeping the screen too bright and not red enough based on how my eyes feel) or too strong, making the pink-grey screen hard to read.

Beyond eyestrain and a headache, I don't know if researchers have conclusively disproven that old-wives tale about reading in the dark weakening your eyes :)

this is your employer here if only you were as productive on work related issues

      LOL :)

That's awesome. Definitely something that should be implemented!

    • Thank you :) Yeah, I really wish they did something like this. It is up to @scotty and team to consider this though. I am happy to support them in whatever way I can

  • Needs the option "Looks OK, there should be a user choice toggle included in Ozb page coding"
