MacBook 2015 (Retina) Keyboard Repair

Hi OzB,

I seemed to have damaged my keyboard cleaning it with water + multi purpose spray although only 2 keyboards are damaged (left shift and left command) which are quite commonly used…
I wanted to ask what is my next step? I'm quite useless doing DIY repairs even with youtube guides so i will probably take it back to the Apple Store, find a local repairer who will do it (dodgily and using replica replacements) or just move on and buy a new laptop?

  • My keyboards never fail for some reason (now one will).

Keep your cleaning to a soft-ended vacuum cleaner and a damp cloth- (or spray on the cloth only). Use a mild detergent if you need, not silicone.

If your MP spray is silicone based, it is not only bad for electronic contacts in your keyboard, but also is not healthy for mammals, should it be ingested tangentially, orally or nausally.

Apple shop have never wrecked any of my devices. I prefer them to do it than me, and they don't use shitty parts, so if important to you, using the apple shop may be more than convenient.

And yes, the keyboard on a 2015 MBP involves removing all the internals and pulling apart adhesives, all stuff that is best done by an experienced pro.
