Dent from Hailstorm Today

So today it hailed crazy in Melbourne and it’s left like 15-20 small dent spots on my car. I got paint protection on it too when I got the car. Any idea what’s the best way to get it fixed please ? It’s just making me hate my car now so want to fix it . Thank you.

what if after you got it fixed, then it got hailed again the next day.

    • I’m happy to take my chance on this as it’s happened once to me in like a decade

  • Are the dents that noticeable? What car do you have? Is it worth fixing?

  • Claim it on insurance. It's probably going to be so much damage that it will be written off so they'll take possession of the car and pay you for it. They will then sell the car for parts to get some money back.

    Or….just ignore it.

    Insurance?

Its a common practice for ozb members to either don't get insurance or don't want to pay excess.

  • The dents are noticeable and surely to me . I’ve got a Mazda 3 only 2 years old which I got brand new

  • I don’t think it’s that bad that it will be a right off . It’s like little dots . Hence trying to get advice on how much it could cost because I’ll rather not claim off insurance as that just means you loose your 5 years of no claim bonus

Isn’t this the reason why you get insurance?

    • I had a similar situation a few years ago in Brisbane with my Mazda 3 and hail damage. A bunch of small dents (around 20 in total), mostly on the roof/bonnet. Once there's more than a certain number it's cheaper to replace that panel. I had a couple on the sides which they did PDR on, then they replaced the roof and bonnet. Insurance covered it (around $4-5K it cost them from memory), and no impact on no claim bonus as it wasn't an accident (storm damage is excluded for me - with Allianz). Was repaired by Mazda repairer. I just paid the excess.

suction cup dent puller - worth a try. got the same problem, more divets than a public golf course and got hit twice in two of the worst areas in Melbourne (driving home) … second time was the worst, crystalized ice dropped for about 15 seconds before it started to rain.

    • Thank you very much - def after more ideas / experience like these. Did it fix it for you mostly ?

I just purchased one to give it a go. I have had friends recommend these sorts of tools in the past but i have never faced this sort of problem…just the odd dent, not Swiss cheese.
You can also get tools that look like turning rods which you can poke into cavities to push the dent back out from the inside - professional storm damage repair professionals use them.

There are plenty of places which do paintless dent removal. Just visit one or two for quotes. Although they will be busy shortly when everyone claims insurance.

They essentially push the dent from the other side.

What part of Melbourne? Flash flood in SE suburbs but no hail (or maybe I didn't notice), however will check my car in daylight tomorrow to see if there's any damage.

Read some of the comments about the suction cup dent remover, you'll need to use glue for that which might even add more damage if you use the tool incorrectly. Best to take it to a professional or make an insurance claim, it'll probably turn out cheaper paying excess than getting it professionally repaired

    • The bit I live in probably. We had at least 4 centimetre hail stones. It was very loud.

    • SE suburbs had oddly-shaped peanut-sized lumps of ice falling from the sky around 6pm where I was - definitely big enough to do some damage.

    • I'm in Nunawading/Blackburn area and our 3 cars are all dinted, mine will be a write off. Our plastic sheeting roof on the outside entertainment area got shredded to pieces and got everything inside soaked too

  • Paintless dent removal…
If you use insurance then you will be up for excess and higher premiums for future years.
Weigh up which is the cheapest.

  • They're almost as bad as dead pixels.
