Pertaringa Undercover Shiraz 2015 - $12.60 Per Bottle (in Dozen Bottle Buy) @ Winedirect.com.au + More

GOODWINE

OK it's the bi-annual 30% off Wine Direct sale, and there's some good buying to be had. My pick for this one:

2015 Pertaringa Undercover Shiraz from Geoff Hardy wines - down to $12.60 if a dozen bottles of any wine (except French champagne) - mix and match as you please - are purchased. RRP $22 and Dans has it for $18.99 per bottle.

It's got 94 points from James Halliday, Tony Keys, and Wine Showcase. 93 from Sam Kim and a wine show gold medal. Halliday said: "Quite apart from semaphoring its region on the fragrant bouquet, its price is mouthwatering, as are the multi-flavours in the mouth. Cherry, plum and blackberry all have their say, but there's not much point in arguing the cause of one or the other, just relax and enjoy. Drink by 2025."

If you buy a dozen of these you're looking at $151.20 delivered. Minus $25 if you use a referral for first order (see below). But if you don't want 12 bottles of just this, here are two others to consider adding into the mix around the same price point:

2015 Zonte's Footstep Chocolate Factory Shiraz - $13.30 after discount. 94 Wine Showcase, 92 James Halliday

2012 Glenlofty Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon - $11.90 after discount. 93 James Halliday, 5 gold medals. Glenlofty was a Vinomofo favourite for many years

Plenty more options on the site if neither are your thing! More on the 30% off dozens sale: https://www.winedirect.com.au/30-off-dozens

Cheers!

  • I'll get in on the act. Here are my favourites that I think are the best value. In addition to Gav's already great choices:

    2017 Bird in Hand Sparkling
NV Zonte’s Footstep Bolle Felici Prosecco
2017 Bird in Hand Pinot Noir Rose
    2016 Chalk Hill 'Luna' Shiraz
2014 Dandelion Pride of the Fleurieu Peninsula Cabernet
    2015 Chalk Hill Shiraz
    2016 Monterra Fleurieu Nero d’Avola
2016 Irvine Estate Eden Valley Shiraz
    2014 Rolf Binder Eden Shiraz
2016 Leconfield Coonawarra Old Vines Riesling
2017 Zonte's Footstep Doctoressa di Lago Pinot Grigio
    2016 La Maschera Pinot Grigio

    • Didn't include the Luna as it's been cheaper recently @ Vinomofo (sorry). Quite a selection there, but you're surrounded by wine daily. :)

      • Ahhhh I wasn't aware of that. Cheeky Vinomofo. It's a tough job drinking all these wines but someone has to do it! ;)

  • Are these suggestions all only in 12 bottle lots?

    • +1

the nature of the sale is you can build your own selection. You can have 6 of one, 3 of another and 3 of another or 12 straight, up to you, as long as it equals 12 bottles or more

  • +1

I bought these for $149 delivered previously, definitely a good drop and decent value at this price.

  • looks good, just need a few more to put into the mix

    • Take a look at some of the Dandelion wines if they're in your price range.

    • OH! How could I forget!

2015 Purple Hands Wines Ancestor Vines Cabernet Sauvignon

This is the same fruit that went into Planta Circa. They didn't do the 2015 as Planta Circa, but the fruit is still that of the 1880 vines. Amazing Cabernet. One of my Fav's

      • great the more suggestions the better, would like to try a variety.

        • PM me your email. I have a full list

        • @Dboc1987: done.cheers

  • How is this against the Petaringa Over the Top Shiraz? That was selling undercover previously.

    • +1

They have it too for $21 after discount: https://www.winedirect.com.au/pertaringa-over-the-top-shiraz

RRP is $40 vs $22, so on that basis it's deemed to be a more premium wine. Rated higher by the reviewers too. Not tried it myself so can't give a personal opinion.

      • +1

Both are very well made wines. If you taste them next to each other, the Over the Top is clearly a better wine, but for the price of the undercover, it bats way above it's price point at retail value and therefor at the 30% off price, I'd call it a superior purchase to the Over the Top

  • Only a couple of days left. I just did a second order to stock up. I really enjoyed the Pertaringa Undercover Shiraz so I ordered 2 more bottles. If you like that you might like the 2015 Finniss River Cabernet Sauvignon.

I ordered a whole bunch of Zonte's Footsteps, but the one I tried so far (2014 Zonte's Footstep Avalon Tree Cabernet) wasn't to my taste. Hoping the Chocolate Factory is better.
