Most efficient inkjet printer

I'm looking for a good printer to print colourful signs etc.

I'm thinking about getting a cheap canon printer and buying those cheap refills.

Does anyone know which printer I should get?

  • That depends a bit on how many signs you plan to print out, and if you would be satisfied with A4 size. If you have a lot of colour printing to do, you should look into CISS. It is possible to hook up large ink tanks to the back of some inkjet printers.

  • Its only a few full colour signs a week, nothing huge. A3 would be amazing, but considering I only want to spend $50-200 on a printer I don't think its within my price range.

  • I usually start with the cartridges & work backward from there, find the most cost-effective carty solution, then find a suitable printer that uses them! The compatibility books at dept stores & inkjet suppliers make good research material for this too! ;)

  • +1

The Canon Pixma and MP series are good, and ink refills (those triple-color Calidad ones) are fairly cheap — only cost around $10 at Dick Smith and they'll refill each cartridge twice.
Make sure check that the printer you're about to buy has refillable ink cartridges that are compatible with these sort of refills.

I have a really old Canon MP140 Pixma printer which is still using it's stock color cartridge from 2 years ago — I've refilled it quite a few times using those tri-color refills.

  • use inkguard with it as well
