Connecting landline phone with NBN. not working

Afternoon everyone. We have nbn fttn. Previously we had a Huawei modem that had a phone line connection and a dsl connection for the nbn . It stopped working from the blackout we had yesterday. I purchased a new netgear ac1200 and only just realised it doesn't come with a phone line connection. Though it did come with a splitter that I can connect to the wall which I then connected both modem and phone but it still doesn't work. The cordless phone says check line.

Does anyone know any other way I can get around it without returning it and get a modem with a phone connection built in?

The internet works.

  • Um, call your internet provider's support number?

    • -1

I would get a quicker response from here. If I don't then I will call.

      • Change ISP's to one that answers the call within a few minutes.

        • i dont think they have those in australia

  • Easier to just take it back

  • FTTN does not provide a voice service through the "phone" line.

Your phone needs to be connected through a VOIP service - this is usually incorporated into the NBN modem your ISP supplies.

Given that I assume your phone service is coming through your ISP, your modem will need to be configured to connect your ISPs voice service. The modems supplied by the ISPs usually are set to auto-configure for their service.

    • The modems supplied by the ISPs usually are set to auto-configure for their service.

And modems provided by Optus for example, dont even allow you to edit the settings - so the phone should work.

Look around the modem settings for any Enable/Disable setting?

    • Thanks for your help. I was hoping there would be another way such as a splitter into the wall when I was purchasing but that is my fault for not looking into it. None of the modem supplied had a phone connection built into the modem. Even the $250+.

Good news. I have found a old belong nbn modem that I don't use any more and it has a phone connection built it. I will have to configure it to tpg settings and hopefully I can use it.
