Basic Desktop for Browsing / Youtubing / Word Process etc

Wanting to buy a new PC for my parents. They currently have:

Asrock H61M-HVGS
Intel i3-2120 3.3Ghz
4GB Ram
GeForce GT 610
HDD

Which is starting to show age being super loud and super slow (even after being cleaned + formatted).

Mostly will be doing browsing/word processing. Nothing too GPU intensive.
Am looking for one that would support dual monitors one of which being 1920 x 1200.

There's currently a deal here - do any of these look reasonable for the above requirements or are they a bit overkill?
Would any of those require a low end video card to support the dual monitors if both were to be 1920 x 1200 (via DVI) - Or should the motherboards in general support those with DVI adapters for the VGA and Display ports?

Should I just be sticking to something as low as 4GB ram and Intel i5?

SSD and more RAM (as long as you maintain a dual-channel config) should fix it.

      This is true.

SSD + More RAM, maybe even just new ram (old ram slows down, can lead to crashes and freezing)
RAM is expensive at the moment though.

But by the time you've paid $100 for an SSD, $50-$100 for RAM, you could buy one of these for a little bit more: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HP-Elitedesk-800-G1-Intel-i5-457…

That's a much faster computer, with much faster processor, more ram, an SSD, USB3 ports, ready to go, at 20% off until 27th December. Comes to about $280 Shipped.

(I'm not advertising, I just bought one too.)

      So that's another option.

      • Yeah this was my thinking as well.

Would that HP Desktop support dual monitors at 1920 x 1200 (via some Adapter for the 1 VGA / 2 Display ports)? or would it struggle

  • They look fine. for the price you cant get much better. just make sure that it has sufficient display/hdmi ports to drive your screens. The small form factor ones are usually really quiet and for web browsing at 8 gigs is needed. you may be able to recycle the video card if it will fit into a small form factor box.
